Does anyone know how Radios where offered from the Ferrari Dealer in the 80s/90s? I've noticed just about every Mondial has different radios installed. Did Ferrari leave it up to the Dealerships to install whatever they wanted or did the customer buy the car new without a radio and would have to get it installed at a shop of their choosing? I just found this thread from years past. It does seem that Ferrari did not include a factory radio back in the Mondial era. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=317301&highlight=mondial+radio Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ferrari from Pozzi, the French importer back then, came with Pioneer radios as Pioneer was subsidizing their race cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Euro QVs were delivered with a Pioneer KE-4300 radio/tape deck and Pioneer TS-168 3-way door speakers, either behind holed leather or with the original Pioneer speaker grill as pictured in the brochure. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Those photos are really dating the Mondial ! Have not seen tape players like that since I was 10 years old.
Very interesting! Does anyone have information about radio originally (or at least "usually") fitted on Euro ts? My workshop manual is very different from the QV one and does not show any radio, just a shutter (17). Bye Roberto Image Unavailable, Please Login
Before I upgraded to an Alpine CD player, the car was equipped with a Kenwood cassette player and 6 1/4" Kenwood speakers. I believe this is original to the car.
Hi Lino, Hi porphy, On my 90 t I have a 98 Sony with cd player (CDX-4180RV). It seems a little too modern to my eyes, but on the other hand a cassette player is too inconvenient for me. A late 80s, early 90s radio with cd player should be great. Could you please tell the model number of yours Sony? Surely not now, but maybe someday Ill will try to find one here in Italy; or at least Ill try to understand how modern seems mine in comparison. I dont remember how first radios cd seemed like. Could you please post a photo?. Thank you in any case. Bye Roberto
If no radio "came with" the car, do judges at concorsos just skip that element of the judging or do they deduct points for the instalation of a more modern system? Cheers
I have a 1990 Mondial T cab US model with a Sony CD that plays either cassettes or CD's (9 or 10 disk player in trunk). I'll get the model number and send it later. You can find them on Ebay. Randy
Thank you Randy. I thought it was a compact radio cd player (without cassete). I don't remember when Sony, Pioneer, Alpine, ... started producing them Ah, mine t is a cabriolet (Euro spec) too. Roberto
I still have one of these on top the wardrobe from my 83 car. I don't think both radio and cassette work although edging on the radio not working.
Hi all, I have attached some photos that might be of interest. Mine is an 87 Mondial 3.2 UK spec and came from the factory with a Blaupunkt Memphis stereo. The proof thats its the original is that the documents that came with the car included the original stereo order registration card from Blaupunkt and was still in the original envelope as pictured when i bought the car recently. I just removed the stereo today as I would like to fit something modern with cd and mp3 player. Only problem is that this stereo has an external amplifier and not sure how to connect the new one as the old connections on the back of this are not compatible with modern units. As well as this i want to upgrade the door speakers. Does anyone know how to remove the door panels to do this? Thanks, Peter. Hi Peter, See my thread: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=350524&highlight=speakers cheers!
Hi Mike, Thanks very much for the thread info, it really helps. When you removed the handle bezel did you pull it off or slide towards the front or rear of the car? What about the mirror switch unit? I got the car back on the weekend after the service and is running so amazing now that after all that trouble shooting it really paid off and I also put the 348 tires on and has transformed the ride and handling so much its like a different car now. The rough running was down to the coil modules that you advised on and the spark plug wires and oil leaking in one of the distributor shaft seals. Did you replace your stereo too? I removed the Blaupunkt yesterday and there are no speaker wires as such but a single DIN style cable which i dont think is compatible anymore which is connected to an amplifier. Thanks again. Peter
Hi Peter, Glad your car is sorted now. The mirror buttons do not need to come off the panel, just stick hand in rear and unplug from wiring harness in back, see pic. My radio is fine, just needed new speakers so I was able to reuse existing unit. You can always splice and reconnect the wires from your DIN connector if you figure out which color goes to the door speakers. It should still work if nothing is wrong with your radio unit. All the best. Image Unavailable, Please Login
