Swater's famed 338.X.3 road registration on the 288 GTO was previously on his Le Mans race cars in the era of 'drive to the race and drive home again'. Glorious.

What is interesting to see on the pictures from Holland is the back side of the Swaters GTO.

Normally, there should be a fog light attached on the driver rear side of the car to meet Belgian road legislation as it was the case in those years (see for comparison location of the fog light on my 1983 308).

Did not clearly see it in those pictures, so was it removed or never placed at all ?

    Regards,
    Frank

Never fitted at all. I know this for a fact because I have rear images from 1985 when the car was new.

Are there any RT hand drive 288 GTO's other than the ones made for Brunei?

Joe, or anyone for that matter who may know, but how hot do these things get when driven around town in a semi-spirited manner on a hot day? Do they stay as cool as a 328 or do they creep up like a 308QV and really get just too hot? Also, about how hot do 288s get when they are really pushed? 355/360 hot (they see north of 250+ oil temps easy) or no?

I know the F40 is a brilliant car in terms of heat management but I'm of course curious as to how well it was on the 288 from those who have real-world non-jaded experiences.
