    Exactly what I was thinking.

5M for the garage, and let's say his motor home is 500K, he's got maybe another 150K in cars. I don't get it?

The bikes are cool, but I did not see anything vintage; i.e., Brough Superior, Vincent, etc., or anything that looked like it should be saved at all costs.

I live in this town, Incline Village, where this garage is. There are a number of wealthy well meaning 'car guys' in this town who, and I don't wanna seem too harsh, but these guys really have no clue about what is hip and cool. They have the means to put together amazing car collections, but have no direction or TASTE!! Garage should not trump the contents!

While I'm loath to second guess how anyone spends their money it's not that unusual for the frame to be worth more than the painting ;)

Pretty sure he's the same guy that had a McLaren F1 among others in that garage, but he has since sold them. The house is for sale too btw iirc.

    pic of it before: http://i44.tinypic.com/ublf.jpg

McLaren F1 #072 in the corner next to the SLR. 4 BMW Z8s and even an F50 on the left.

I read some time back that his son build the house, owned all the cars and died, that would explain why the garage is empty....

That story makes sense as his son bought the F1 and the father took possession after his son died, but I think that was back in 2001 from cancer in his 30s...not sure.

Kind of a sad story of an up and down ride that ended with his death from cancer.

His dad's motorcycle collection might just be one of everything new, and not collectables that one needs to search out and pay up for, but it makes him happy.

For those that have 2 or 3 car garage and store/drive daily I have a question regarding re-entry after works end:

    Garage Attic:
    1. The attic has R30 insulation to reduce those Texas temperatures from trickling down into the 8’ high garage area.
    2. The garage attic has large eave vents all around plus a copula, the purpose of roof venting is to reduce temperature build-up inside the roof cavity.

The question is: If you drive your car every day we all know when we come home the engine is hot, the heat from the engine dissipates into the garage acting like a heater and now garage temperatures increase. For those insulated garages how are you dealing with this additional heat? Ok for Winter but, Not Summer!

If the idea is to transform a garage to look and feel like a livable space then this would be a HUGE issue. Who wants to be in a hot insulated garage?

Adding an electric vent (attic fan) system could be an option but, what size and for how long would it have to be on to bring the garage back to normal temperature?

    Ciao,

    SRR

I live in the southwest corner of Georgia on the Florida Lines. My attached daily garage, not to be confused with my storage garage, is heavily insulated in the attic with an insulated roll-up door. The garage also has a 52 inch celling fan and a separate 3 ton AC unit.

Without the AC, the garage temps in the summer would be much like a car sitting outside with the windows rolled up.

Even with eve and ridge vents you should also consider several power vents with thermostats installed in your roof, it will keep your attic much cooler with fresh air flowing thru.

Correct A/C will solve the heat problem and a 3 ton will cool that engine even more quickly!
I have an 8' ceiling so ceiling fans is not a option on my list. At some point I have thought about A/C but, you still have the excessive heat from the car that needs to be dewelt with should it be a 2 car type. Larger garages have an advantave over smaller type.

Just exploring the options for cooling and dealing with unwanted heat.

My ceiling is probably 8' 6". Just install a ceiling hugger type fan, it will help circulate the air. But you still need to get the heat out. I got a hold of an AC contractor and told him if ever he removed a 2 or 3 ton unit in great to new shape let me know. A short time later he gave me a call and told me he had just removed a unit in a remodel job and it was mine if I wanted it. I installed the unit and paid him to evacuate and re-charge the system.

That's a lucky deal! And not a bad idea for a source as well.

With all this technology around us, I wish it was like this.

Arrive at home and the garage door opens (we have that technology), enter garage and then the door closes. Once we leave the car and enter our home a thermostat in the garage would identify the heat increase and switch on the vent to remove the heat from the engine of the car. That's the real problem as it takes and hour or two for an engine to cool down? Then the thermostat switchs off the vent...

Looks like "much" to me. My kind of garage. Work space and functional, and not to forget the purpose of it all....nice selection of cars :)

Looks good to me. M coupe, GT, and what looks to be a 16m. Can't tell what the red car is, but those three are cool enough. Always liked the coupe, don't see many here.

The red car might be a Triumph?
