Idiocracy... Cool concept, very poor execution...
Snow White and the Huntsman, better than I thought going in. A little odd asking for tickets to see "Snow White" never dreamed I would ask that at my age. Overall very good, great spectacular special effects, and the evil queen Wow! Worth seeing again, yes.
The Avengers at the theater with the grand kids... we all loved it. After that we rented Thor and Capt. America, both were very entertaining! Next, to complete the "series", Ironman 1 & 2. Yes, we're all backwards and way behind.
Saw MIB 3 today. Went in with low expectations but it was actually good. Next up: the dictator. Anyone seen it?
Saw a pre-screening for Prometheus here in Brazil. very entertaining... shades of the original Alien, though it's a bit of a different feel... Worth watching.
I have read that many critics say she over-acts, but frankly I don't see it. If you ever saw video of the real Eileen Wornbos, if anything Theron didn't quite capture the crazy in that woman. Not sure why everyone assumes that because you are gorgeous you cannot also act, some sort of subconscious sexism maybe. Maybe that is why she got the Oscar for Monster, because they wouldn't give it to someone in a role that both acts superbly and would have most husbands leaving their wives drooling over her if she gave them a second glance. She had to be made ugly to win.
After I saw Monster, I checked her out on YouTube and IMDB... I had forgotten how many versatile roles she's had. King Kong, Aeon Flux, Devil's Advocate++ Needless to say, she's now one of my favorite female actresses. She is stunning, but there's more than the looks IMO.
One of my favorite films. Murray and Scarlett were awesome. Film reminds me of my experiences in Tokyo.
Forced to watch the most horrible movie today on the airplane: "Mysterious Island" with "The Rock" and Vanessa Hudgens. This movie is so bad, you think it's the reincarnation of Ed Wood directing it. The acting is horrible -- I mean HORRIBLE. The CGI effects are stupid and obvious. The "jokes" are pure cornball. What a pity the great Michael Caine is in this. I guess he needed the money.
There was a video of the real thing on the "Monster" disc I rented. Creepy indeed, and a hard act to follow on screen for anyone. Theron did a quite creditable job, IMO. I can't recall names off the top of my head, but I've seen other movies in which famous good looking actressess were uglied down for much less than glamorous roles and scored big. Just watched: We Need To Talk About Kevin. Very good drama about a difficult baby who grows up to become a teen psychopath and his effects on family and community.
+1, just got back from seeing it, definitely recommend it. I watched it a few weeks ago. I forgot how it ends. -- Saw Summer of Sam last night. Info looked awesome, but still I'm not quite sure what to make of the whole movie, not sure if I liked it or not.
I'm surprised you would even bother watching anything with the Rock. Like most SNL stars, he was good at 5 minute skids and as a HBO stand-up but not for the movies. As for Michael Caine: He seems to need some of it recently. He's been in a bunch of horrible things.
Saw Prometheus last night. I really enjoyed it. Beautifully shot and I think it posed some really interesting philosophical questions. I also thought it did a good job tying the first two movies' plots together. I really don't understand the criticism that it doesn't have a plot. It's really pretty straightforward and plausible if you're paying attention. Fassbender is excellent, of course, and really seals the deal. Definitely doesn't exceed the original but I think it will get better with time. The only thing negative I can say about it is that the script / dialogue is a little "average" at times, but mainly with some of the characters that aren't central to the main narrative. Other than that, I thought it really worked well. Best sci-fi movie I've seen awhile.
I think he was referring to former pro wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, rather than Chris Rock. Johnson has surprised me with his acting in recent years, he is better than I ever thought he would be. He needs to do a serious role that no one would ever expect, maybe as a gay man who gets the AIDS and withers away.
Last night we watched Play Misty For Me. I'd never seen it. Great vintage Eastwood, a '71 psycho/suspense period piece that plays well in 2012. The XK150 Clint drives is to die for, car soundtrack perfect.
Madagascar 3; very good for all ages. Only negative, which is a big one for the Tifosi, is a horrific scene involving a TR; the animator must be a Lambo fan.
