    Where's the dude who started this thread ? Has he decided yet ? After all he's the one buying !!

    Note : FWIW I had the pleasure of driving a friend's NA-1 NSX-R, RHD only, Japanese Domestic Market imported to Malaysia. Not available in the States I believe..Now, that car is a different beast and can seriously rival the 355, no mods, straight off the crate.

    This is a very timely post. I will be taking a short term 3-5 month assignment in Tokyo Japan starting at end of November…I would sure like to take a ride in one of these NA-1 NSX-R models….I will have to scope it out while I am living in Tokyo. I have always liked the NSX models (even though I just bought a 1989 328)…..I am open to the experience of the NSX for sure….I am just too tall for them…by about 1 inch

    That way to high 3-5k a year in maintenance. I have both cars, the ferrari has been the cheeper of the two for me this past year. I have owned them both for past 3 years. $250 an oil change every 12 months.

    The NSX get's no looks anymore. The 348 Ferrari still get's looks like a 355 or 360. You really notice when the kids point at you, and you can read their lips, "look, it's a Ferrari'".

    My 348 made it into a magazine here (uk) called Classic Cars and was in a head to head with the NSX...... ;)

    If you think you would enjoy a NSX as much as a 348 then your lucky cuz you can own a NSX and have a nearly trouble free low maintainance car.
    But if you have to have a ferrari and nothing else will do then you don't have a choice really.

    The NSX does nothing for me, the 348 everything.

    It would fool someone who wasn't acquainted with the 360 or the NSX. While the workmanship seems ok, I think the concept is a bit of an affront to both automotive marques. :eek:

    I hope the NSX was salvage/heavily damaged before the work and I assume those are kit car F panels and not the real deal.

    I don't know guys, but I'm deciding between what 308 to buy or NSX. For the maintenance $ on the 348 or 355 I'd rather have a Testarossa. I think some need to look up videos on the NSX and see what the car really is.

    I'd rank them in order of 512TR - 355 - TR - 348 - 328/308. That's also about the performance order, though the 355 and 512TR are essentially the same performance. Depends on what you're after, TR is not a light, nimble car that you're going to toss around. By the same token, a 3xx series isn't as good for weekend (or longer) trips.

    I'd take any of them over an NSX, but that's more due to emotion than anything logical.

    Of all the epic fail on this thread, this one is my favorite. It's great because when this post was written I was just about ready to get into the last of my NSXs (had 3 over the years). I ended up selling just about a year ago for exactly what I paid for it.

    I wonder, had I bought a 348 around that time (06 or so), what it would fetch now?

    In the period of time during which I owned that NSX (4 years or so) I spent about $2500 in maintenance and that was largely the timing belt and water pump (a seven year service)

    I wonder what I'd have spent on the 348? Lol

    There is no doubt that any Ferrari is special and has "intangible" qualities, but if the question is "which is easier to live with?" (which it was), the answer is stupidly obvious. It isn't even a remote comparison.

    To me, with a Ferrari, if you have to ask its a bad idea. If "easier" is in your criteria and you aren't worth millions (where *everything* is easy), it's a pretty bad idea. If "daily driver" is there, it's a pretty bad idea (again, unless you're worth millions). If "cheaper" is there... Run!

    Between reliability issues (yeah they settle a bit once it's *perfectly* sorted, but ive never had to "sort" other cars), cost of basic maintenance and the staggering cost of depreciation that comes with anything other than garage queen mileage, there is *nothing* that isn't "easier" and cheaper short of crazy hyper cars.

    The Ferrari has to be a purely emotional decision detached from any real practical consideration for it to be "right". This is why I never took the plunge... I don't feel comfortable having that much financial risk exposure in a pure toy. I admire from afar and stick with Vettes, NSXs, 911s, GTR, etc that have genuine daily driver utility, reasonable running costs and no potentially catastrophic (financially) risk exposure.

    Ferrari is "worth it", imo, but that doesnt mean its a fit for just anyone who happens to have the capital for the initial purchase.

    To get a dose of "soul" there's always cars & coffee :)
