Just wondering..... Can you use a Mondial T radiator in a Mondial QV or Mondial 3.2 model? Will a 3.2 Mondial radiator work in a Mondial QV or Mondial 8. All have different part numbers. Just wondering if they are same form factor and can be used in each model...

I know the 3.2 has two standard fans. And my QV has wiring for fan, but no second fan.
I am having cooling issues, and was thinking of getting a T radiator and simply get it re rodded and install my QV.

    Appreciate any feedback.

Seems to me you should fix the radiator problem without trying to adapt something else.

Like why it is a cooling issue. Blocking or ??? IIRC, the cooling system was adequate on the older models with proper fans, bleeding air, and such.

Car has 27K miles. Cooling system has been been bled and changed. I added a second aftermarket fan, replaced the two long radiator hoses, checked temperatures on radiator surface (temperatures consistent so don't think there is substantial blockage), fans come on around 170 degrees, thermostat seems to be working property. Car has run hot in high temperatures with city driving since I have owned it the past 18 months. At crusing speeds, temperatures are fine. Gauges hit 2/3 mark in stop and go city traffic when ambient temperatures are greater than 85 degrees or so.

Was considering purchasing another Ferrari fan (after market fan does not blow as hard as factory one- my QV car only has one fan but is wired for two), rebuilding the water pump, and re rodding the radiator. It would just easier if I could purchase an assembled radiator unit with two factory fans. I would still have the radiator redone- but brackets and shrouds would be in place. Hence my question regarding exchange of radiators.....

If the rad is cooling on the highway, I suggest it is not the rad. When stationary, you are not getting enough airflow.

Could be fans (they are turning in the correct direction?) or it could be the shroud, which helps low speed air flow.

Is there a cooling difference with AC on or off?

    Regards,

Runs normal on the highway at constant speed. The car has original fan and shroud (on driver's side). Original fan blows much harder than the small after market fan I recently installed. In fact the second fan did not seem to improve cooling at all. That is why I was going to purchase another Ferrari fan and shroud. Current radiator will need to modified with new brackets to install second fan. However, car has run hot even before I added the second fan.

Both fans turn the correct way. Both fans are setup for pull fans (never changed original fan) and I think they turn counter-clockwise if viewing from trunk bay. I did switch the aftermarket fan to pull fan because it was setup for push out of box, and crossed wires as noted for pull assembly. I also installed new foam above the radiator, and foam is still located on sides. No real difference with a/c on.

I basically want to improve the cooling system. Am purchasing a new thermostat from Superformance UK and will send the water pump to be rebuilt.

I was just considering purchasing a used T radiator assembly with two fans/shrouds/brackets and then rebuild the radiator if it was same form factor as QV. Ferrparts has a crashed Mondial T. Does anyone have a Mondial T and can provide measurements for radiator and detailed pictures?

    Chris,

You bring up a good topic. From the parts diagram, it appears that all these cars come with 1 radiator fan or is it miss interpreted in the diagram? My 88 3.2 has 2 big fans and seems all original and works very well for me. From a parts perspective, the part numbers are all different and the radiator/fan units do not look the same either. But that's not to say you can't use it in your car, may need to jimmy-rig it to fit. I think you're on the right track though. I would get the radiator recored and water pump rebuilt and see if its any better. Not 100% convinced its the second fan that's a problem.

I decided to go the route of ordering a second Ferrari fan and shroud instead of purchasing the full T radiator and fan assembly (quoted $800). Thought money was better spent with just fan and shroud assembly, since I was going to re core the radiator anyway.

I ordered a new thermostat, water hose/seal, and new belt from Superformance UK. I ordered gaskets and seals from Ricambi, and Ferrparts has a brand new fan and shroud for a QV.

I dropped off car with mechanic today. We will remove the water pump and ship to Flying Dutchman to be rebuilt. We will remove the radiator and have it recored, and then install the second Ferrari fan and shroud. Hopefully radiator shop can fabricate new brackets for the second fan and improve the radiator.

I had front hood struts rebuilt by Strutwise in Canada- should arrive any day now. I am also sending my blinker/light stalk assembly to Verell with unobtainium to be rebuilt. So, car will be in shop a few weeks. Hope this resolves my cooling (and blinker/light) problems.
