pfft - regularity. Pretend racing, but you get to hang out in your driving suit at the track, just like a real racing driver.
Didn't you see the tongue in check smiley RB, I just happened to have a photo of the 240Z's behind me and posted it for fun.
Only time I did regularity was to bed in tyres or brake pads, times who cares more interested in winning races. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Unfortunately that's all I can afford to do at this time. I enjoy taking the 308 out on track and for $800 I got a lot of track time.
ease up as was my comment,i think your very game driving your car on the track,as I've said to you on several times,to nice of a car to track it,will only knock it about.
Good photo. Back when I used to be involved with classic racing in NZ it got out of hand with the modifications. Some of the 240/260z's that raced were full on race cars and had huge brakes, big hp motors, plastic panels, etc. Same with the Lotus Cortinas, Alfa's AND Porsche 911's. I raced an Alfa Sud then and I had drilled lighten holes in many places, including the doors which is strickly illegal ... and I was one of the less modified cars (but I did have a 180hp motor). Most had 4 pot caliper brakes and vent discs that came from a racing catelogue. Nobodies car (at the front end) had any trim and some of the roll cages were pretty clever. It was nothing like classic car racing over here in Australia. Example was a very quick FIAT 124 that ran a Ford gearbox and rear end, etc. Alfa's running Austin Princess front calipers (cheap 4 pot), fibre glass panels everywhere (yes my Sud's bonnet was glass). It was a lot of fun because we were getting faster and faster every year and enjoying ourselves. What we didn't notice is that the cars were becoming the same as we had worked out which models were the fastest and those with money bought them, thus the number of Lotus Cortina's increase, along with Escorts and Alfas ... plus a few Vivas (yes there is a quick model). These cars were relatively cheap and very modifiable. Other classes filled up with Datsun Z's and 911 Porsches (like the one with 550hp). The cool and interesting cars disappeared from the grids. When I started classic racing we used to race against 246 Dinos, 365BB's (yep), Daytona's, E-types, XK140's ... all sorts of stuff and it was great fun. I realised what was happening and removed myself from the scene as I wanted to modify cars too much for classic racing and went and raced club cars instead. Because NZ is very accomodating of club type cars (and kitcars) we ocassionally would share meetings and races with the classic guys ... hence why my club car would be racing against 308 Ferraris, etc. I will agree with Ian as my Sud only ever raced against 308s in the early days and they were driven carefully by most. Just before I gave up racing the only 308s that raced had ~400hp engines and were 100% race cars with lighten holes, etc. ... but by then I was in a club car ... Pete
Who's talking about the 3.0l? Idiot post again! A 308 wouldn't see which way a 3.3 litre turbo went. A boxer and testarossa is the same in a straight line, but lost out badly in corners and brakes. That's fact.
Hey I forgot, I did at least take my suit off and put jeans back on as soon as I returned to the pits.
Most people when refering to a 930 either say 930 (3.0l car) or 930 3.3l I was talking about the 250bhp 3.0l cars, which i have driven several.Which are a far different animal to the 3.3l cars ie no inter cooler and or 917 style brakes. IMO great value and a very under rated supercar. Should you not be at the local public toilet ,selling your arse.
thats all i ever used even when i went up to Winton and practiced with the porker or the Mustangs. Or when I hillclimbed the Elfin. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Trying to remember ... yes I would have been. Started around 1986/7, I think ... in my fathers MGB. And yes BlackJag I know the name Ken White. Pete
Please please show us were i said that or mentioned 3.3 l cars in comparing them to a GTB308. Did i not type about Bobs 3.0l car vs his 308. Were did i mention 1986 cars?
umm, I was talking about a 930, which I understood refers to the first 3litre turbo, the 3.3 being called a 933. Have I got this wrong? The 3.3 is a much quicker car, as you rightly say. So much to learn about Porkers, such an interesting subject.
I was talking about an '86 turbo...this whole conversation was about my 1986 turbo, how fast it was on a cold day and how it would leave any 'normal' Ferrari for dead on the track, until the 355. scroll back, if you know how.
what a laugh this rent boy compares a 1986 300bhp plus 930 3.3l to a 1976 3.0l Ferrari, any normal person would compare the same age cars ie both 3.0l cars.
