No doubt, I bet in person you could REALLY pick it apart.

But in the heat of the moment *money exchange* I can see how people get caught out.

While in Hollywood, USA 5 yrs ago................every $100 bill I handed over the persons checked the note under some sort of light to see if it was real.

I remember local shop keepers doing that to the 'old' paper 50's and especially the 100's when they first came out

Was it you that mentioned that you have got a pretty sophisticated security set up at your store? Would this still be the case if you provided a DVD to the Police of the culprits producing counterfeit money?

I thought it was the Federal Police that handled currency crime anyway?

to make polymers and print on polymers these days are NOT an extremely hard task, trouble is we are so use to the idea that AUD is IMPOSSIBLE to counterfeit, we never care to check or question. Unless if it was a seriously badly made notes, and even then....

Absolutely. Trouble is it wasn't picked up when it was passed. It was picked up in the office when the banking was being prepared. It could have been passed a day earlier and with multiple cash points you would be viewing security footage for days. Not feasible for a $50 loss when the Police cant really help in reality.
It is a Federal Police matter as you say.

I do know the differences. I would have personally counted many millions of dollars of bank notes over the years. I picked the fake immediately; but a busy staff member didn't and I can appreciate how it's tough under pressure. I showed 3 people the photo today. Guess how many picked the fake? ZERO

Not really. Trouble strikes at any time in my experience. Our worst incident was a pseudoephedrine hold up and that happened at 10am on a weekday.

back in highschool, one of the guy in our class would print $50 money at home and use it in a 7-eleven, safeway, fast-food joints where the clerk is constantly serving people and all they cared about the speed of exchanging money.

he finally got done when he tried to buy some fish and chips, guy had oily hands and his notes simply "melted".

that was 12 years ago.... imagine what you could achieve at home NOW!

If his family was quite wealthy, then it sounds like he was quite bored when he decided to counterfeit money. :(:(

Most of these private school kids are rich & seriously bored. I remember there was this kid who use to sell drugs to public school around the area. his parents bought him a R33GTR (pretty big deal back then), he funded all the mods himself. at one stage he use to deliver pizza in his R33, rumors were while he was on his pizza run, he would go and do Miami style drop offs.
