I need to glue my rear view mirror back on, but I can't see how to remove the base.
I see a screw, but it is not accessible. Do I have to try to glue my mirror back on all in 1 piece? TIA

I had to reattach my 348 mirror once. One morning I jumped in the car and saw the rear view mirror laying on the floor. I ordered the adhesive pad from Ferrari. When it arrived, it was all cracked and rotten from age. Porsche used the exact same pad on the 914. I would suggest you go to your local Porsche dealer and have them get you one.

I don't think the mirror came apart from its base. Make sure to remove all of the old adhesive off the windshield and base. Use a blade to scrape the mirror base clean, then follow up with some solvent. Once it's completely clean and dry, apply the new adhesive pad to the mirror base. I put some blue painters tape on the windshield to locate where the perimeter of the mirror base should go. Then simply press firmly into place.

Automobile Atlanta specializes in parts for the Porsche 914, you should be able to get it there as well...if not cheaper.

I've heard before and saw here also that the Porsche double stick tape is best for my 308gt4 inside rear view mirror. Went to the Porsche dealer yesterday, but didn't at that time know to ask for a 914 part. So of course they were no help since they needed make-model-year. They did find one for a 996 but it was not in stock and $48.

Just for the sake of science I'll go back and see if they can get the 914 part...

Also read here there's one you can get from Ferrari for $5, is that so ?

Any help here will be appreciated ...

Following the advice in this thread, I bought the mirror adhesive pad for a 914 for my own mirror. However, there is a red side and a white side of the peel-off backing. I've heard there are different adhesives on each side. Anyone know which side goes on the glass and which side goes on the mirror mount? Thanks

Call a Porsche service manager and ask him. It's their part they should know.

In Texas, we need to have two rear viewing mirrors....
These two can be any combination of left or right or center mirror.
    I have a 355 Berlinetta and I am 6'2" tall,
I removed my center mirror and ..... WOW !!!! I can see thru the windshield now !!!!

That screw is a tricky one.

I made a tool for it, still kinda tough to get to.
