Wow. Sounds like your car is a total lemon. Please post the VIN# so we can all avoid it given it's incredibly diminished value.
I'm going to keep that a secret, so I can sell it to you in the future, and screw you with the sale. My plan is to represent it as no repaints and everything working. Once you buy it, I will just not return your calls and let you deal with the problems your self after the sale. I won't care because I got top dollar for the car. Hell, I'll even charge more than I paid, so I can make a profit. I can really laugh my way to the bank then. It's just so easy to make a buck. Everyone should do business that way. Why make money the honest way? It really doesn't make sense....
I've been on the internet a minimum of 13-14 years. I think the total of all my posts, on all the forums combined will not add up to the amount of posts that I wrote on this thread.....I can't stop, this is absolutely crazy! It makes it worse because my car is at the dealer until late Friday, or Saturday......I want to drive it!
I have been told that Ferraris can not be paint tested - they won't even pass a paint test from the factory.
GOOD NEWS!! I just received a call from the manager. I want everyone to know that he seemed genuinely concerned, and wants to do the right thing for me. My intent for the original post was to help others out if purchasing a used car from anyone, or any dealer, and to also document my "adventure" to show that you can never be too careful. Even though I felt that I took all precautions to ensure a smooth purchase, I still had unresolved issues. I said it a few times, and I will say it again, I was holding out on full judgement of the dealer/sales personnel until I saw if the dealer took it upon themselves to "do the right thing". A few times I may have gotten wound up a little, mainly because I was pushed by some other posters here (I won't mention names), I did my best to try and avoid that, but when backed in the corner, I felt "what's right, is right". It seems as of now, according to the manager, they are looking to do the right thing. He agreed to cover the cost of the alarm siren, and the detail job. I am happy with that. I took care of the little things myself, no big deal. I will keep everyone posted on the results of the detail work done, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't need a repaint. Please refrain from any more specific bashing until the whole thing pans out (please don't push me to it). They made a few mistakes, they've owned up to them, and they are agreeing to pay the amount that it costs me. At this point I believe that he will follow through with our current agreement and my faith in the dealership can be restored after all!
I asked about the interior simply because it's almost impossible to make used leather look like new. If the previous owner took good care of the interior, he probably did the same for the rest of the car. Perhaps the repaint was from something minor such as a bad clear bra removal or a stone chip. Since you bought it, just think positive. Yeah if it bothers you, just get the hood repainted and send the bill along with the other receipts to them.
The interior absolutely looks like it should with only 3,500 miles, like new! Same goes for the car mechanically. I agree that the repaint was more than likely something minor, there was no evidence of accident damage, as I said in my previous post. A repaint is not original paint though..... One of my pet peeves As I mentioned in my previous post, they agreed to make sure that the car is in the condition that was agreed upon prior to the sale. I'm happy about that.
Yes let me know. A couple dealers told me that as well as my local body shop who repairs Ferrari, Lambo, Bentley & Rolls. Curious if you hear the same. I love the paint meter!
The only way for the dealer to make this right is to take the car back. Too many red flags on this car so return it if you can. Personally, I think Ferrari dealer inspections are completely worthless. It is a check list. Full CPO inspection at least does a compression test. The catch 22 is that dealers will not allow outside PPI - probably because they know the car will not pass. Repaint is very worrisome and a poorly done job is even more worrisome. Repaint should not be obvious if done properly which it sounds like it wasn't. I wonder what was not done properly as well. Send it back.
I'm enjoying this thread sarcastically speaking. You guys hold out for that one owner car, pay top dollar for a low miles example... and then still have little things that detract from the car. And find out it's not "perfect" in the end. It makes me happy that I spent MUCH less for my imperfect 99'... I hope after all this settles you are able to enjoy your car for a very long time.
They did do the compression and leakdown test, and all the numbers came back ok. Mechanically (so far) this car is exactly how you would expect a 3,500 mile car to be. I totally agree with you on the repaint. I can't understand why it would be blended and not just paint the whole hood. I'm wondering if maybe a clear bra was removed and paint was damaged in the process, or maybe just road rash that the prior owner was not willing to accept. At any rate it definitely does bother me, I really wanted a car with original paint. That was avery important selling point for me. That is the biggest disapointment. Everything else can get worked through pretty easily. The original paint can never be put back. Hopefully it looks good after they detail it properly. If not, I will have to get it re sprayed. I wonder if it only needs the clear coat stripped and re sprayed? I wonder if that's possible?
LOL, you are 100%correct! I wish I didn't have that passion / OCD for my cars. It can definitely be a losing battle. You will also lose much less money upon resale of your "not so perfect" car. However, logic has nothing to do with it. If I used logic, I would never have bought a Ferrari. I have to admit though, now that I'm driving one, with each mile I drive, it makes more and more logical sense to own one! I've only driven it for 3 days, and I'm hooked for life!!!
Every dealer checks the car for paint work with a meter when they bring it in - they 100% know. Then they beat you up on trade in. When I inquired about re-paint on my car they handed me a paint meter and told me to check each panel myself.
I'm not sure a detail job is going to fix a bad paint job. I would take it to Bradan and let them get the car straightened out. Next, I would take their bill and mail it to the dealer with a letter asking them to reimburse you. I would be shocked if you didn't get some action. Probably no need to get litigious. You probably won't get 100% of your money back but maybe that's a fair resolution since, in some sense, you probably should and could have taken greater care about the inspection. Caveat emptor: the dealer had a well-known conflict of interest in the matter and so it probably wasn't prudent to trust them.
FLA dealers are pretty dodgy especially when you're out of State. It's pretty hard to ensure the guy is going to follow through when you're sitting back at home. Withhold money until car is delivered and then have them FexEx title, have someone do a final check and only then hand over the balance of the funds? Luckily the things you mention won't be too hard to correct. A swirl and haze remover on that paint could have it looking better than new.(you might need to use a deeper cutting polish) Anyway, once this is over I'd just focus on enjoying the car
I have to step up and say that there are crooks in every state. I have bought all my cars in Florida and have never gotten screwed, the only time it happened was with two purchases that were from out of the state. But I have a thing against Miami cars, Vegas, etc. That's because I don't like to buy cars that belonged to a poser, a personal matter of mine.
Correction: It wasn't the service writer that said he couldn't believe it was sent to me that way. It was someone else....I mixed them up.
