Is there any difference in quality from the Spesso vs Elring head gaskets. Where is the best source/price.

Huge difference. Spesso is marginal quality.
Elring has the rubberized seal around it, and is modern technology.
We used to have blown gaskets on AR Montreals every day, placed a special group order of 200 head gaskets, never another blown gasket!
Elring is Made in Germany ;)

While on the topic of head gaskets, do you put them on without any kind of sealant?

    Elring, nothing. Spesso, a prayer.

Alberto is right but the material only looks rubberized. I've been using Viton O-Rings for years in my Maserati Bora; manifolds, coolant, etc with great results and I'll bet Elring is using something similar.
I see dinoparts.de changed from Elring to Reinz head gaskets which do use Viton

    Reinz, is also iffy.
In an Alfa Romeo, I would not use it.
    Stick with Elring.
