Next instalment of C+C in New Canaan is on tomorrow, 20th May. Usually some nice kit down there, unfortunately I wont make it but thought I'd mention.

You missed a good one and you know how perfect the weather was yesterday!

After last month's record turnout of 220 cars, yesterday blew away people's minds and the records with over 300 cars (okay that includes motorcycles and trucks, too! :) ) showing up for a mindblowing display of car heaven.

There was a special tribute to Carroll Shelby and the Shelby club members brought a good number of Shelbys of all vintages.

Highlights included a 1959 250 TR and a 1947 (?) 6C-2500 driven by Fangio in the Mille Miglia.

Peter Bush, the 95.9 morning drive DJ, did his usual great job of announcing and the raffle prize was a half day's driving instruction and lunch at Monticello Motor Club.

This is always just a gathering of car nuts, there is no judging, there are no prizes other than the occasional raffle prize and the tour is just that, a tour with no rally or timing gimmicks, just a fun drive into the beautiful countryside of Fairfield and Westchester Counties.

I didn't have time to go on the tour but it looked like a fun and scenic tour up into Redding, Georgetown and the Saugatuck reserve area.

From a small event this has really grown - its busy and they can hardly fit all the cars in. at 8.30 it was almost full - people are arriving early to get good parks. It was a little cool this morning but this didnt put too many people off... I've concentrated on Ferraris mainly but as said, a great variety of cars here (as well as some commercial vehicles, bikes and even tractors today as well!)

Another good turnout and, as always, I'm amazed at the previously unseen cars that show up here.

Now C&C takes a hiatus for July and August and will return on September 9.

A lot of the C&C cars went down the road afterward to the Darien Father's Day car show, which is always a nice local show. This year we were treated to seeing Archie Urchioli's spectacular silver/black 250 GT SWB at the Darien show. Simply beautiful!

Just a point of note, the Maserati is a Ghibli... And yes, the engine note is awesome.

I'm a regular attendee at C&C, and it has grown quite rapidly over the past few years. Every time I go, there is always something new, some car or cars that are simply over-the-top. The Bugattis were a nice addition yesterday. I suppose that I am still enjoying photographs of the NART Spyder and Testarossa that were there in May. I suppose that the best part of these events is that, regardless of the cars exclusivity or provenance, they're simply parked there with the owners sipping coffee and talking about automobiles. Well, that, and the rich smell of old car exhaust. And leather.

Although the official C&C events are suspended until September, I'd also like to add that Zumbach's Coffee is still a great destination if you're out with your motorcycle or classic car. New Canaan is very "Ferrari Friendly" (As well it should be) and the roads that run north of the Merritt Parkway are great driving roads.

    See you in September!

New Canaan's roads are very scenic but I wouldn't characterize them as particularly "Ferrari friendly". They have pretty frequent radar traps set up on both Rts 123 and 124. I always am very cautious throughout the town whereas the roads in Westchester County, particularly up towards South Salem, have higher speed limits and less speed enforcement.

Stay out of New Canaan if you can for a nice drive, the cops are very aggressive compared to other area towns. Also they do seat belt checks and all kinds of games to stop traffic and see what other violations you may have going. I mean come on who doesn't wear a seat belt, even if you hate them, most cars won't stop beeping until you put it on. The Caffeine & Carburetors show is amazing and the only time I really go in there. In fact I think it is one the best events around.

Right. My point was that New Canaan, the town, is Ferrari friendly... As in, you don't need to worry about your car as you would in say, Port Chester, Norwalk, Bridgeport.

WOW, what nice collection of cars.

I grew up there and I can assure you there was never anything like this back then.

The odd E-type and early Corvette yes but mostly Chevy SS396 etc.

You are correct in that NC is a "Ferrari Friendly" place to park your Ferrari. Just be alert and stay close to the speed limit when you are driving on those nice roads there!

Zumbach's is a car friendly gathering spot, especially mid-mornings on the weekends. You never know what might be parked out front and there is a regular group of car nuts who like to drop in and talk cars over a cup of excellent coffee.

I agree on the parking issue. Has a lot to do with lack of jealousy and curiosity. In the real world I find I cannot really park the 430 anywhere as it attacks way too much attention (except Greenwich Avenue where everyone is desensitized). Even driving around you have people yelling out of windows, waving, photos, questions, etc. I never touch or dwell on cool cars I come across but some people cannot help themselves.
