about to close on my first Fcar.
    have a question

    background:
this is an used car 2004 F360CS (not sure if CS is significant). Dealership has only one key. They tried calling the previous owner (local to where I am). This owner "has not been able to locate the key" or "doesn't know if he still has it".
I found out that apparently some owners will keep the key as memento after they sell the car.
I don't like the ideal of someone out there having the key to the most expensive car I've ever own.

    question
can I change the electronic code on the key? How expensive?
any other options I should think of?

    Thanks.

DO NOT close on the car... until you have the all the key issues straightened out and keys in your hand... I'm not familiar with 360 keys, but know enough that if the proper keys are not present you will go through a lot of expense until you have a proper set of keys... which may include replacing the entire locking system... the car's price should include a full proper set of keys... obviously the selling dealer does not want to go through the process ( read a lot of expense ) since he is going back to the previous owner... it's more than ordering a couple of key blanks...

The key isn't going to start the car anymore than a brick will. You have to have the remote as well.

That being said, it's my understanding that you can turn off remotes you don't have, therefore making your car secure again.

Now, can the person come unlock your car with the other key, yes. But again, a brick will do the same thing, right?

I'd discuss having the selling dealer getting you a full set of keys for the selling price or some version thereof ( sales price that is )

it'll give you peace of mind,

    S

I bet the guy kept the key as a souvenir.

yes, the brick will let a person into the car but won't let them drive it. Thanks for the smile on a friday afternoon. I guess I'm Safe for now he he he...

I don't really care about the extra key. I just don't want someone else to have the ability to drive my car. Are you saying that the second missing key can be turned off?

Sometimes you have to apply a little pressure. The memento thing is pretty much true. I have told dealers in the past that books and keys are a deal breaker. They always seem to come up with both at closing
