This is the first time this car will be serviced by me. since i have too many cars most just sit. So after 7yrs. of driving very little i feel it is time. would any agree?
Yeah, but............ shouldn't that oil be changed on a somewhat regular basis (for acidification/other reasons)?
Friends don't let friends use fram filters on their Ferrari's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is a huge difference in crapo fram filters and quality filters such as Baldwin, NAPA and a host of other main line filters. Do your self a favor and go to "oil filters exposed" .com and read some interesting information regarding Fram filters, even though it is mostly regarding motorcycles, it tells the real story. As a rule of thumb for cars in storage and used very little, oil should be changed at a maximum interval of 36 month intervals. Due to the excessive amounts of unburned fuel transfering into the crank case, the oil becomes deluted and very corrosive. This is even more of an issue if the car is just started and not driven longer periods of time. I have a number of collector cars including early race cars, a couple of Ferrari's and a couple of other exotics. We change the oil evey fall as we put them in storage for the winter, even though they are all stored in a heated moisture free car barn. Consider the minimal cost of an oil and filter change and compare it to the cost of an engine rebuild, I vote for frequent oil and quality filter changes....just sayin' Howard Musolf 1981 308gtsi 1982 400i Cabriolet 1988 Lotus Esprit 1920's-30's Indy/sprint cars 2 many brassera cars
the heads up on Fram is GOOD info. thanks. as to oil changes all are right, change is good. just look at the last election. I am a real bad car guy about oil changes, i know. If i feel the car has a problem i will have the oil tested often. For company trucks i use a 25,000 mile rule, real bad but it works for these sorry employees i hire. by the time 300,000 rolls on the O D the truck is finished and ready for a new replacement. Of course my toys get checked, but not by the book. Typical is 1,000 a year. even worn out cars last a long time at that rate
