Within the USA most insurance companies have have accepted an appraisal Ive given at face value. I'm not sure what your insurance company needs, but many insurance companies may take multiple appraisals and then establish the specialist or expert standing of the party issuing it. If I have good detailed pics and a full history, I believe I can give a good estimate of a range of values.
Thanks Emilio! Did you know the Gucci family special-ordered a Countach S with Gucci-materials interior? If you can check your notes you might find out which one...
Pending a very picky ppi, of course . Sports Car Market uses data from auctions. Sadly for their records, most pre 90's are traded privately. Thus no data for record keeping. Ralph, the Islero SCM price guide (surprisingly) states low value $85,000, high value $142,500.
great service from Libreria i used them a couple times i heard something about it do you have any images of it?
Not yet but I will share when I get something. The Gucci family had an Espada too. Thanks for the private info on exhausts & wings. Fyi do you know that there were 2 Countachs fitted with electrically adjustable wings? The same man did the wiring for both cars at Sant Agata. 1002 & 1026.
Joey, a decade or so ago I used to write some auction reviews for SCM. But I quickly realized that even their auction data on Lamborghinis was surprisingly lacking. And yes you are right, the majority of pre-1990 cars sell privately.
SCM is run by Keith Martin, isn't it? This certain Keith Martin had written the only stupid article ever published by the highly esteemed Octane magazine. See Octane Magazine issue no. 7 (January 2004), page 20. Within that aricle, Martin is speaking about Lamborghini in an extremely stupid way, while Ferrari is being praised (of course). Thank god it was a short article. I would like to mention that Keith Martin already has been flamed by several Octane readers (see issue no. 9 / March 2004, page 36). These were very good answers to his infamous article. After reading Martin's article in Octane issue no. 7, you will understand that this guy has no knowledge about our marque and you will understand that in his world a 1976 Countach LP400S is existing. As Joe said in post 1017 to this thread: "that factoid alone speaks to the credibility, or lack thereof regarding the numbers quoted. Nuff said." BTW Octane issue 7 and 10 are worth to be bought and read as issue 7 features the now famous #1120056, while issue 10 features #1120192 and #1121034.
That was a great shoot and again, I cant belive that was about 10 years ago. C, you are so right, a decade and more ago, championing the cause of these cars wasn't easy in the face of sterotyped & biased thinking that existed about them, but we did it anyway, and now they are seen as legitmate classic at parity with many Ferraris.
I really have to say thanks to all in Italy (& Europe) who have reached out to meet, its appreciated. Meanwhile I have learned that different regions have different markets, and the exchange rate of the Euro against the Dollar is what's responsible for holding the prices of cars in Europe a bit higher than similar variants in the USA, in my opinion.
Thanks for info. They only said they would require a signed appraisal stating the value. Would you be able to eventually do that?
Bonhams held their annual auction of collector cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed again last Friday (29th June) and amongst the lots was a 1989, RHD Countach Anniversary. I had a quick look round it before the sale and while it was in excellent condition for its 18,000 miles, there was nothing particularly remarkable about it, so it was good to see it sell for a strong £113,500 inc. premium ($178,000). Here's a link to the Bonhams catalogue description: http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20143/lot/271/?page_anchor=MR1_q_1%3Dcountach%26MR1_lot_range_1%3D%26MR1_module_instance_reference%3D1%26MR1_list_grid_result%3Dlist
Hope you had a great time Joe. Interesting article considering where you just were. http://www.humanevents.com/2012/07/03/eighty-ferraris-technocrats-soccer-and-the-world-economy/
Thanks for that Harry. Right in line with the upper end of stated Annivesario estimates in this thread.
