I got lucky and am going to spec my 458 today! but 1 thing i am still not decided is tachometer color. Sorry if this has been mentioned before but i cannot find it with the search option here !

here is my question : I like yellow tachy but worry about visibility in daylight, owners pls comment ! if it is bad , then i'll just go for black!

The yellow is best color because it matches the color of the ferrari logo and its soo clear at night and in day light.

Bad if sun is in the front. OK on gray days and of course at nght. Get the LEDs anyway. They work well.

When driving hard, you don't have time to look at the tach for shifts no matter the color. The CF steering wheel with LED shift indicator is a must IMHO.

Sounds perfect. You'll love and use the LED's all the time when driving I'll wager.

The black and red tachs are tough to see in the daytime (without illumination). I had a yellow tach in a previous car and it looked good. Unfortunately, the yellow hue is not the same as the cavallino badge on the steering wheel. I currently have a white tach and really like that.

I agree. I was not sure about the lights on the wheel in terms of daily driving. Although my last car had a yellow tach and I chose and like the white (for the opposite reason you suggested - too much yellow fo me), the fact of the matter is the lights can be "seen" from any angle and I honestly never look at the tach except to appreciate its aesthetics. Given the car we are driving a "bad" choice would be difficult. Best

Seriously.. in this car the tach is an old fashioned decorative throw back to bye gone days. :)

A hand crank starter would be more useful.

Here in the UK White is another obscenely priced extra whereas Yellow is not. Whilst I really like the White, I dont like it that much.

You will be happy with it. As others have pointed out, in this car LEDs are very effective. The car winds up so quickly under acceleration in the lower gears that the tach is useless and in fact makes you more prone to hit the rev limiter. You will find that the LEDs allow you to keep your eyes on the road while taking in the lights in your peripheral vision.

    Good luck..

I've got the LEDs but I find I use my hearing to know when to change. I never ever look at my tach - I think it's yellow.

I haven't got the guts to risk the rev limiter but I know what you mean. I think I could tell maybe within 500-750 RPM by the pitch of the scream but that's about it.

My current car is yellow with a yellow tach, but the car I have on order (triple layer yellow) has the black tach. My personal taste...I just think the black looks better. I use the LED's a lot, but when I'm serious about acceleration I'm looking at the tach.

I have the yellow tach in my Daytona Black 458 Italia and have no issue. did you configure your car at Ferrari.com. Found it to be very helpful when I ordered the 458 Spider.

Had a yellow tach with my red italia and in the daylight could not see anything in the tach.
Now in my 458 spider I have a black tach which looks great and has enough background lighting to make it clear during the daytime.
In the italia manual it states the yellow and white tachs have no background lightingduring ambient light.
Believe it is on pg 113 in italics.
    Get the black!

Have yellow tach on my italia and have no problems w visibility in hk. Trust me, w the engine screaming behind you, you'll know when you need to shift. Around town, It'll be rare that you'll be anywhere close to redline

Just took delivery of my 2012 458 with yellow tach. Zero issues in direct sunlight but I concur. The LEDs and the sound is the primary sources for timing revs and shifts :)

+1...although even then shifts can be missed. Happened twice yesterday during a heated run and I've driven her over 2,600 miles. The car accelerates so fast that the tach just isn't a viable option for gauging shifts IMHO.
