Hi all, a few weeks ago I fitted a new master brake cylinder on my 308 GTS, and after driving it for ten minutes the brakes started to lock up. I thought it might be something to do with the vacuum to the slave cylinder so I released the vacuum but it wasn’t this, so I bled the lines again, but after driving it for one or two hour it happens again and I have bled the brake for the last time. Does anyone know what could be coursing this?

    Thanks
    peter

    Hi Peter

    Welcome to Fchat.

You might also post this question in the 308 section - there's a much better chance of getting an answer there.

This happened to me once, many years ago, and not with a ferrari, but it was simply that the brake pedal wasn't releasing far enough to allow the fluid to release back to where ever it's meant to, in other words, the piston wasn't coming back far enough to pass the hole in the cylinder that allows the fluid to lose the pressure.

hope that makes sense...the words aren't very technical! lol

Yes you might be right, maybe before the brakes were very bad someone adjusted the peddle to get more from it. I will check tomorrow. Thank you

Thank you Michael, I will try in the 308. Can you tell me how do I get the photo of my car next to my name as you all do?

You are 100% correct PP (again).

This problem is usually fixed by simply adjusting the pedal height, which is easily done by loosening a locknut at the top of the pedal assembly. It's all obvious if you stick your head into the footwell and look up.

My first thoughts also as I have seen it many times before in the past.

Normally from old, gunked up brake master cylinders, but in this case from an "over adjusted" brake pedal.

There ya go, possibly someone (who didn't know what they were doing) adjusted it with the old brake master cylinder in place and now you have a new master cylinder you may have to re-adjust it.

It will be trial and error from here, but if you can see where the 'clean' threads are on the shaft, try and wind it back to there as that was the original position it would have been in Peter.

Congrats on the subscription and welcome mate.

Now that you have subscribed, click on "User CP" at the top of the screen.

From there look left and find "Edit avatar" and then upload a pic from there.

If you have any dramas, just ask.

Make sure you are on the main Ferrari Chat page and then find the 'model specific discussions' section and you will see a 308/328 section.

Click in there and start your thread.

But before you do, see if you can do a search to find your problem. The search button is at the top left of the page.

Take care and let us know how you go with your brakes.
