    Uzz: its hard to say from the pics, but the new bolt looks like a simple white cad finish (hard to get zinc to look like that) while the original "gold" bolt might be either zinc or cad that been chromated and finished shinier (i think they are baked in some way). Either way, if you dont likr the look, you will indeed have have a plater strip and redo for you.

    On the locknuts, the "distorted thread locknuts" which u received have the same performance as the nylocs w the added benefit of being able to lock up to 1400 deg F. What we use in the engine compartments of aircraft when a something cant be wired or pinned. You are right that they cannot be reused or rather should not be reused. However they will deform before they wreck the thread on a grade 8 bolt or better. Again, still no good to you if you want to go with what you originally had. Its very annoying, i can understand.

    I'm cool with the nuts and understand how they work. Thanks for clarification that the bolts should remain in good shape though as I was a bit worried about that.

    I'm just a bit p1ssed because I really wanted this to be as it came from the factory but actually put together a bit 'better' and now I have to use different bolts and different nuts.

    It's not helping me to reach my objective. It took some weeks of work to finally find a supplier who could get me everything that I needed, and after spending over 1000 GBP on bushes and bolts, I'm just grumpy coz what arrived wasn't as expected.

    You're doing a fantastic job. I understand your frustration. This is what it is to restore a old car. Factory don't care about AUTHENTIC LOOK when selling replacement parts. They send you what supplier send them as long as they do the jod in physical dimension and strengh.

    Been facing that problem for years in the musclecar resto. Some specialist suppliers offer CORRECT concours parts that are never exactly the same. Now add 3 different assembly lines for the same car and different suppliers and you're all screw up.

    Keep posting your nices pictures your car will be really nice.

    The bushes all pressed into the arms really nicely.

    Actually, it's the other way around. The arms pressed onto the bushes perfectly.

    What I mean is this. The arms are really weak. DONT try and press the bushes into the arms.

    You will bend the arms. Many of the bushes need to be fitted inside anyway to ensure the orientation of the bush is correct.

    I found the best way is to create a jig to hold the bush and then use the press to gently press the arm down onto the captive bush. Zero strain on the arms to do this.

    You need some simple things to make a jig. Heavy metal washer large enough to go over the bush head but not over the collar.

    A bit of pipe or a a large ferrel that will sit on the arm and let the bush come through a few milimeters as the lower rear arm inner bushs are longer than the arms.

    Hard to find time with work, but I'm trying to do one thing every day, irrespective of how small that job may be.

    Tonight I fitted the exhaust studs. At least those that can be fitted and still allow the diff side covers to be removed for setting the diff in place.

    Long, hard and tedious day today. It took four hours of hand finishing to get the new diff side carrier to fit into the gearbox. Then a bit of tweaking of the right side original one and finally they are ready to accept the new diff.

    Then the sacrificial bearing cup had to be ground down a few thou to slip into the carrier and be easily removable to shim the diff. Did this tonight so now I'm all ready to go. Just need to sort out shims so planning to fit the diff next weekend.

    I just heard that the Crown & Pinion will be delivered next week .... if so, my new Forza Components diff may be fitted in 2 weeks !

    Nice pictures Robert ! Good work too !

    Your gearbox with the U.K. Forzacomponents diff looks really better than NEW ...(and WE know it is better than OEM and new!)

    If you look at pic # 1 and pic # 2: on the right, you see the hole where the propeller shaft / achse comes through.

    I had mine extended/widened 2 milimeters as precaution ..... You can now still do that too ;)

    I'm using one of my own quill shafts Mel. They have been raced in Europe for 15 years and none of them have ever broken. It's a 19mm shaft like the 512M but made of better material.

    Being 19mm it also wont distort and bend like a banana so the hole size isn't affected.

    Good day Melvok,

    Just out of curiosity, are you involved with Forza Components or something? I ask, as I see a number of posts where you seem (to me anyway) the promote these diffs... In this case, no one asked about the diff used, etc (at least I did not see a specific post) and so your comments/promotion seem somewhat out of line. Perhaps it is just me and if so, then my apologies, if not can we give it a rest?

    Why all the grinding? What "tweaking" to an original cover in needed to fit this diff in?

    It wasn't fun Paul.

    The new side carrier came from Daniel at Ricambi and just wouldn't fit. It was too tight in various places and took hours of hand finishing to get it to slide in nicely by hand with the lightest smear of grease on it. Basically a zero tolerance fit.

    There is a single long bolt that locates this carrier downwards into the gearbox casing and on the carrier there is a tab that this bolt goes through. That tab seemed to be the worst part, constantly binding on the gearbox case. A few other places but that was the worst.

    Weirdest part was that my original short carrier wasn't damaged at all yet even it took some work to get it to slide back in perfectly. And both with no O rings at this stage! They will be damn tight with the O rings fitted.

    Nothing to do with the diff. It's not even in the car at this time. Just the two alloy side carriers.

    Once the side carriers were in place, I pressed the bearings into the carriers, fitted the bearings to the diff and everything went together perfectly.

    Due to shim the diff on Friday so I'll let everyone know how it goes.

    Mel's getting excited as he also purchased a Forza Components diff and is having it fitted to his car. When his car and mine failed within a short time of each other I reckon he's keen to see at least one of them close to getting back together again especially with the same new style of diff fitted.
