US GP in Austin Discussion and Speculation...

I don't know about RVs, but I can comment on the weather that time of year. Freezes in Austin are very rare in the first place, usually lasting only a few hours, and they are extremely rare in mid-November. The average first freeze date is Dec 2 I think.

However, it will be chilly at night in November, and there is always a possibility of rain. Here are the actual temps for Nov 18 from the last 4 years, to get an idea of what to expect:

I have been unable to determine the direction orientation of any of the site plans or track layouts. Does anyone know where North is as it relates toooo the track? Thanks.

Found answer: Turn 20 is West, Turn 11 is East, grandstand 5 side is south.

 

Just got an e-mail showing these new seating areas.

Doesn't appear they are having trouble selling tickets.

They just pick up the phone and order more....

It will be REAL interesting, what the Front Straight tickets start to resale for, from those contracts.

I am not flying in and picking up an RV. What is the point in that. I am driving the 1000 miles from here in an RV with my buddy and my family in it. Leaving a week early and having a nice no rush road trip, with tuesday after the race being target arrival back. That was my wife's idea - making it more than just going to the F1 race.
Big Tex, I'll PM you later on. I remember also some time ago a promise of sorts, that if we make it there and to your party, you'll help my wife learn how to line dance (she really wants to learn) and then I was promised that I will be laughing my ass off watching it. LOL
I remember that in Indy there was a huge RV area right in front of the entrance under the grand stands. literally across the sidewalk. I had a hotel every time I went to Indy, but that place looked more fun than anywhere else. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is going to be a similar place RIGHT NEXT TO THE TRACK. Also, does anyone have an idea for fees to "hook up" the RV. I understand that there is electric and water hook up on most RV parks and they usually charge between $10-$30. I know it is kind of much to ask right now, but does anyone have any info about if there is an existing RV park in the area and how much their fees are going to be the race weekend? Do I need to reserve a slot in such an RV park in advance? Where can I find any info about places like that in the area? Or should I make it really an adventure and just show up and then deal with whatever curve ball the situation is?

 

There is lots of open land near COTA,its in a seedy area.If you have a RV, its self contained and you dont need any hookups,you may want hook ups so you dont have to run your generator. I would think that there will be some RV parking close by,I will keep a look-out

 

At the Indy GP they charged $150 Wednesday night through Monday AM to park the RV for the last 6 years I took it. No hook ups. It made it great because we could get up late, walk across the road and be at the track in a couple of minutes. At mid day we could go back and cool off, have lunch and refreshments, relax and go back out for the afternoon. At Talladega it was $50 for the whole week 7 years ago.

 

I hope it is that cool during the race.

 

Bought a turn 15 PSL today. Hoping for a great race come November. Maybe there will be 5-6 WDC contenders there by then.

 

Unless FA runs away with it......ha.

Really hoping I get to attend this race. Track looks to be awesome!! I've only been to Montreal and it is great, but flat. Who would have thought an elevation track would pop up in Texas?!?

Oh, and the Formula 1 site is finally selling tickets/travel packages to the USGP:

The tickets there include PSL grandstands (without buying the PSL), although they are more expensive than the PSL "season ticket price". Turn 15 seems to be quite highly regarded, with the higher rows selling at $1500 or so (same as Turn 1). Lower rows on T15 are much more reasonable at $441, plus there are the non-PSL grandstands at their normal price.

 

Just bought some GA tickets; we have a car and house in SA to use. You guys better turn the thermostat way down for me.

 

Purchased Turn 2 GS tickets through FCA reserved seating last week. Booked a room 27 miles away at Hilton for a mandatory 4 nights X$275 & Just booked plane tickets. It's crazy this thing is going to cost me more than my Monaco GP tickets and Hotel this past May!!! However, to watch F1 in my own backyard (USA) priceless... I CAN NOT WAIT! FCHAT GTG?

 

Free parking on my 1000+ acs mins from COTA @ no charge,I manage 1200+acs in 10 tracts less than 30mins from COTA....I own 95acs right across the street from www.lostpineshyatt.com which will run dual helicopter shuttles every 6mins to COTA......I was at the track this week,its very close bye for a country boy,,,its MAGNIFICENT,,,,,best track in the world!!! in AWESOME TEXAS,,,

Basically confirms that both US GPs will be a reality. No more ifs and buts. Bernie is just being a weasel, but the races will take place.

Austin is expected to be 100% sold out with 1/3 of the audience coming from Mexico.

Just wondering how many of the past naysayers and doubters have gotten on board and are coming to the race ?

The ticket pricing proved to not be as outrageous as feared, and the hotel pricing, either through the Ferrari Club of America, or expanded searches to neighboring towns has gotten back to the $200-300 range per night.

You have to admit that having a purpose built race track, with the elevation changes and views this one has, is a great thing for this area of the country. I did not buy a PSL, but I think I will at least try the Australian V8's and Moto GP once to get a feel for those series.

After all the starts and stops, rumors and finger pointing this race has sprouted, it should end up to be a hell of a first event. Really looking forward to the Historic GP event that weekend too. We will need an f/chat get together.

 

While I now believe that the race will happen, the hotel situation still sucks big time. Doing a quick check on Expedia yields nothing in Austin itself. There are Motel 6 for 300+ outside of Austin and everything that would be interesting has blocked out the date.

So no, I won't be there. Would like to but I need a decent place to stay. NY OTOH offers that.
