I'm just a private SEL pilot, and last week when I mentioned flying, he said, "after about 60 years old they don't let you fly much."

Often think of a family friend who is involved in aerobatics, and dream of doing some of that too.

How do you guys stay sharp on land and in the air?

    Regards,

Land: Lifting, cardio, eating right, no alcohol, drugs, or cigs, avoid drama and the stress it creates at all costs, and definitely protect your eyes.

Air: Practice practice practice!! Aerobatics especially takes constant attention to perform correctly and keep your body acclimated to the additional stress.

Don't worry about how many years are left in the tank. Just stay healthy as long as you can and you will keep your medical. They aren't going to come grab your certificate after a certain number of years.

Who exactly was he referring to? Did you read the article in the latest AOPA rag about Cernan, Lovell, and Armstrong? I think Cernan is the youngest at 78, but all three still fly and Cernan and Lovell both have 421's. FAA Class III physicals are a joke. You are the best judge of whether you are fit to fly. Anything that requires a skill set typically involves practice. Most pilots don't need an excuse to go fly, but practice is as good as any.
