Due to a fortunate last minute invite, we will be flying up in my buddy's Cheyenne IIIA from CAE and have a few questions for the EAA veterans... but I digress..... At the FCA 2009 International meet, we had the perfect weekend at Eklhart Lake. Did Road American in an F40-we hit 160 on the uphill straight (lady driven I might add), did the concours, rally to and toured the Harley Museum, sat in the seat Kennedy sat in at Mader's and had lunch, and then one day at EAA which really capped the week off!! We were simply overwhelmed by the shear volume and did not even get to see it all.

This year we have two local connections in that Team RV from KAND will be there as well as our good friend Austin Myers in his new 850+ hp Evolution -stop in and say hi at the X-plane booth if you are there-he'll have the plane and similator on display.

Now for the veterans, what is it we just have to see? For now we plan to come in early to see the planes land, and leave about mid week. Hotel rooms look to be scarce, but there seem to be houses available.

I got carried away looking at some of the pictures from 09. What could be better than Ferraris and aviation? It was the perfect week......That first picture has a funny story. After calling for weeks I finally found a garage for our cars. It was just across from the Osthoff and once housed a back hoe. We noted the gentleman unloading the alloy bodied 250SWB, and he was inquiring about garage space, so of course, we invited him to stay with us! Just an amazing car....

Here's a few more pictures from the week, Admiral Phillips 500 Mondial had just won it's class and the Enzo award at Pebble Beach. Great car, driven well by the Admiral. He told us he purchased it in the back of a Rambler dealership for a few thousand dollars back in the day.

There is a chance that next year this could happen again, as the FCA will be back at RA and Elkhart lake for the 50th Annual meet. I sure hope so, because it was indeed perfect, just perfect.

There is a slim chance I might be able to stop in this year. If I do, it will be on Saturday, just for the day (if there was a chance of getting lodging, it would be fun to stay overnight, but I'm guessing that's not happening).

So, I'm interested in any advice as well.

If I could find a place to stay I'd go. Why does the world smallest town host the worlds largest aviation event?

It seems there are homes and homes with rooms near the airport on craigslist http://appleton.craigslist.org/. I was surprised by this, and was referred to cl by Cindy at Airwolf out of KAND, They are going to bring 18 people, all flying up from Anderson, SC. in various aircraft.

Just for the fun of it I called Hawthorne Suites to find out what happens in a market when demand out paces supply-greatly out paces supply. Try $479.00 per night. There are complete homes for rent for less, but not on the airport.

Wow. How close is that Hawthorn? If it's across the street, it might be worth it.

Nice pics. The Admiral's Mondial looked absolutely fantastic at the Milwaukee Concours as well.

She may have hit 160 on the main straight but that yellow F40 held up my 308 by crawling around the corners :p

The last time I went there, I stayed in a dorm room on the UW campus - cheap, comfortable, and connected to Wittman Field by shuttle bus. Only one problem: I had to book it a year in advance!

I think that anything still available on this short notice will cost the proverbial arm and leg, or you might have to stay further away, like Green Bay or Milwaukee! Or maybe camp out under an airplane.....

Looks like my "slim chance" turned into "no chance." Oh well, maybe next year... have fun!

I was up at Road America crewing for an Alfa at the vintage races and stayed as always at Alice's bed and breakfast outside of Campbellsport. Every year a group of friends take the whole farm house for that weekend. Alice doesn't advertise, and when I asked her if she was booked up for Oshkosh she said she had plenty of room.

    http://www.w9eh.com/Test%20Site/index.html

It's a real farmhouse, with a couple dogs and chickens and horses boarded at the stable behind the house. Breakfast this morning was scrabbled eggs from her chickens and one duck egg from across the street, but the usual breakfast is fancier. We took Alice out to dinner Saturday night at a supper club not too far away. Not too far from Oshkosh. PM me if I can answer any questions. No interest, etc.

And 0733GT sure looked pretty at the concourse in downtown Elkhart Lake Saturday night.
