I'm don't think I would want a car like that. It's unique and is a piece of history but it's tied to such an awful person and is associated with Nazi Germany. Crazy generals who did terrible things drove it around. I'm would not enjoy owning something with that kind of association.
I understand someone might want this car because it is unique and has significant ties to history. That person probably isn't bad and is most likely not a Nazi supporter.

I don't think cars like that should be driven for fun or for the 'thrill' of driving Hitler's* car - put them in an appropriate museum, accompanied by an explanation of the historical perspective.

In the late 90s I was in Miami.
While I had a rest in a coffeshop I heared the conversation between two Gentlemen. One claimed he owned the car of Eva Braun, Hitler`s late wife.

I turned around and asked him something about the car. He enthusiasticly invited me to see the Mercedes. THe next day in his garage I found a white Mercedes 220 with white (!) tires and white (!) leather. I counted no less than 35 swastikas all over the car. Even the Mercedes star on the radiator cowl was replaced by that terrible Nazi-logo.

"And? What do you think as a German" was his question. My answer was: "Miss Braun or Mrs Hitler, never had a driving licence and was a total secret in Germany until `45.
In no way someone would have given her such a flashy car that looked more "tinseltown" than true Mercedes!"

He was shocked!

Sharp car - and likely have an easier time scoring a "Capone" vanity plate from the DMV than a "Hitler" one, would guess.

I'm not a Mercedes guru, but IIRC the 220 didn't appear until the 1950s, by which time Eva Braun would still have been dead.

It was still driven by high ranking generals I bet. Amazing what they do for some views now a day.

 

At the Ottawa War Museum they have Hitler's Merc. Sure its one of many. It came from some car museum in Las Vegas that closed about 8 - 10 years ago.

 

Frankly, I'm not sure I understand the commentaries. It's an inanimate object. It didn't gas anyone at Auschwitz. What it stands for is what people impart to it by their own logic and rationale. Although, I do understand that the "connection" can affect the value.

Not long ago, an ex-Bin Laden Group Hawker 800XP came up for sale at what I felt was a VERY attractive price.

Whether there's some sort of Karmic bad juju attached, I rather doubt. But, to each their own. People get somewhat sketchy when it comes to buying things that have connections to bad events/people (e.g. haunted houses, homes people have been murdered in, etc.).

It's obviously a symbol of a terrible regime and person in history. It's natural to see distaste in making it an object of curiosity -- and maybe even a greater value due to it's place in history.

My girlfriend is from the Ukraine. She owns a Lexus. We were talking about new cars to replace it last week and she asked me where they made Audi's. I said they were German.

She said "no way I will ever own a German car!" and I knew what she meant.
