thats unbelievable not in australia 348's are for sale from around 100 k to 149+ k even not very good 348's fetch over the 100 mark here
Yep yep!! Its a ****en disgrace what we pay in Australia for cars!! Tell me about it! Its a shame we cant drive LHD cars here. Otherwise I would already have 6 Ferraris in my stable!
Compared to what? Isn't the dollar STRONGER than the AUD (sorry pap) and heck, even the euro is only $1.36 now. I keep telling people when they think the US has problems, (it does but...) they should really look at the rest of the world for a comparison. Not to get too OT, but US also controls the greatest amount of resources compared to its percentage of the world's population and military by any measure, meaning the most flexibility and ability to adjust. About 348s being too cheap, well seems like all luxuary cars took a big dip recently in and outside of Ferrari. I think the 360 prices tanking are mashing 355 down, which is pushing down 348. I think 308, and 328s holding much better at the age they are, pretty fully depretiated and people don't expect as high of a holding cost for these cars being fairly simple/reliable. Pus 308/328 buyers are not looking for the "fastest" car for their money. If I don't get back to working and using mine soon, I'd take $35k, and throw in new battery, and engine out kit from Ricambi. We have any recently sold data here?
Probably the lowest price 348 on the market. Looks really nice too. 348's look nice in nearly every color! Awesome in gray! And you definitely wont run into another one at your local car show http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=10147 59k miles. $31,900 and on Ferrari ads No affiliation with the seller Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
There is anice blue one in the classifieds that looks well sorted for $27K. If there arent any surprises, thats a freegin deal! Wish I was in a position to get a 348 but just cant right now. My time frame is a year or two and Im sure with my luck everyone will "get it" and they'll creep up! Hopefully not But, markets dont lie - they are worth what people are willing to pay. Just like when people *seem* to overpay for certain cars/models. We may not agree but "it is what it is". Mondials are nice and those can be had for a song. It seems wrong but thats what they go for. I think *some* of the 348's bad rep is possibly warranted. They were very pricey when they came out compared to previous 3-series cars. The styling, while great to me was more controversial than the universally loved 308 series. The quality control was a little dodgy too as this was ferraris first real venture into serious electronics & some other fancy stuff. Its first-model year growing pains. Much like my '87 Turbo Esprit: The early Turbos('83-'85) were much less sorted than my model year was but the whole series gets a bad rep for a few bad , early cars. Of course a huge part of the suppressed used pricing is the nasty service costs. 308 cars could be worked on easily by DIYers. No engine out nothing. Relatively good access to just about everything. No dodgy electronics or CEL nonsense. Many buyers, rightfully so, were scared away from all the talk of the $10K every three years to drop the engine and trans stories. Much harder to work on yourself - and most of the 348 buyers are in normal income tiers where they cant just drop the thing off at Ron Tonkin and leave them a check for $10K every 36 months! So, prices reflect the lower entry costs needed to sell the cars. Long term, we shall see how it goes. However, I dont see them ever suddenly becoming collector cars. Thats fine with me, it ensures I'll be able to get me one.
My 355 in the ads and on EBAY, is the best deal on the face of the Ferrari Planet. It runs better, looks better, and is more reliable than most out there. BTW this 348 is beautiful.
Always liked the 355 too. Actually, not to start anything but the 348/355 are more desireable to me than the 360(bland, rounded off, looks like a C6 vette from too many angles) and the 430 which just doesnt excite me either. I just wish the 348 and 355 were more DIYer friendly. I bet lots of people do
I owned a 308gts carb. mondial cab QV, and 348 turned 348 racecar. I totally disagree. The 308 is not a "no brainer" ferrari to fix. In some ways it is harder. Moving the A/C compressor out of the way to get to the front belt is not fun. Trying to do valves on the front bank against the firewall and not drop dirt caked on the front trim and firewall is no easy task unless one is a sloppy mechanic. Dealing with carbs is no fun. Bleeding the cooling system what a joke. There is a very good reason we got fuel injection today and it is not because of smog. Each chassis has gotten progressively stiffer so that suspensions can do their job. In that department the 308 is really a POS and the 348 is miles better but still needs a full cage to the suspension points to do the chassis any real justice. The steering feel and brake feel of a 348 is monumental compared to a 308. I was at and road in the first 348's at willow springs raceway back on their debut. The 348's were like rockets that could be road hard and put away wet all day long. It was the pinnical of 1989 technology just like the 458 is today. Engine out is a pleasure. Your back don't hurt , the surgical field stays clean, clear visual access to everything means less mistakes and greater accuracy. You could put a very accurate 3ft diameter degree wheel on your engine out 348. Try that in the engine compartment of your 550. We have gotten every bug out of the 348. No stone has been left unturned. Gearboxes are a non-issue. All the shortcuts of the factory have been fixed in the aftermarket. These cars can be made perfect. I raced a 348 to death and proved it. The 348 is a great car because it is the most mecanically diy friendly ferrari with just enough modern electronics that the diy'er can fix. There is no F1 gearbox, no e-diff, no incestuous factory alarm. The more electrical engineering skills you got the more modern you can go.
