Before I start alot of typing I wanted to ask if this is the correct sub-forum for turbocharger discussion. Tater
Fawking intranet!!!!!!! Mods please remove this thread. I do not feel like re-typing my last post which was extended and more informative. Thanks
Tim, I was discussing the advantages and disadvantages of a current turbine housing that are new to the market, 1st pic, on a turbo Miata forum so I thought I would get an adult and unbiased opinion from FChat. My thoughts are that a wastegate is more accurate when it is external and is fed from all exhaust runners prior to the turbo. There seem's to be a lack of knowledge/understanding concerning 'overspeed' and having full boost hit the turbine wheel (which could be very catastrophic). I just want to discuss thoughts about his specific setup/layout. I will not be utilizing this turbine housing but just wanted to get impressions and thoughts. ps, Tim if you care to see what direction I am taking with my Miata checkout my thread, http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=339040 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think you are referring to a blow-off valve. Regardless if a wastegate is atmospheric or circulated back into the exhaust (that is another topic in itself) a wastegate is basically a boost controller. When a wg is properly placed it will be fed by all exhaust runners and will regulate the amount of exhaust pressure and heat the turbine wheel will endure. With that being said a turbo will have a longer life span. Oh I almost forgot to mention that when a turbine housing, such as the one I showed, has a wg attachment in theory it actually increases the a/r of that turbine which could lead too boost fluctuation and then having to call AAA.
