I'm not sure the FIA would agree with that!

Had it gone wrong, that could have led to an incredibly bad accident with the driver having no control of the car at all!

Sorry to be a killjoy, but the reality is that it was pretty irresponsible!

 

If he had tried that on a car set up for an oval, the outcome would not have been so nice.

 

No way that is legal. My gawd they won't let you pass under a yellow flag because it's too dangerous and they let you take the steering wheel off in the middle of a race? No way.

 

As Geoff Brabham will tell you, the steering coming out as you go into turn 1 at Pocono in an Indycar can be very scarey......

Very silly IMO.

 

Do we know why he did that, or was it an accident? It said "electrical problem"--would that typically fix it?

 

Eventhough it could've been pretty nasty, he does have some big cohones to remove it on such a high speed!!!
