The kids worth millions and this is how he dresses for TV? You know, back in the 60's drivers had some style, and would show up in a sport jacket at least. I find it disappointing to see young athletes and celebrities show up with their ripped jeans or underwear hanging out and their sneakers untied.

If there weren't 10 stylists making sure he wore what they wanted, I might agree. Give the kid a break, because that's what he is, a kid.

PS: On a different note, that whole interview was a little uncomfortable for me. It did not seem like Seb really got the show.

It was uncomfortable because idiot Letterman wouldn't let Seb get more than a couple words in without interrupting him. You can tell Vettel wanted to talk about things other than racing...

:) ...I know, can't help it. I wish the drivers would represent F1 with a bit more style. The most highly technical form of racing with millions of dollars invested and this is how the world champion shows up.. Yeah its 'cool', but when I see pictures of Jim Clark hanging with Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill, looking pretty slick in thier slacks and sportjackets... those guys were "cool". The drivers in the '50's actually drove their cars better dressed then what the driver's today show up at the track wearing on Thursday.

Hey, at least Seb was *wearing* shoes. James Hunt often didn't. Of course James was both pretty and posh enough to pull it off.

If you were born after 1968 you don't know what style is.

Well, IMO he did well in the interview....

A little technical talk, a jab at Bernie, a little joshing about Indy and Austin...not bad for 10 minutes!!!

I suppose he can wear what he wants, for me, I'd have to look my best to go to NYC, on camera or not!!!

Colin Farrell went to Letterman with blue jeans, plain t-shirt and a cap. I think Letterman actually mentioned it in the interview.

Edit: I though he seems like a nice, down to earth kind of guy :)

    just to clarify:
racecardrivers are paid to drive really fast.
models are paid to look really good and stylish.
    seb is a racecardriver.

No kidding, I thought it was great. Of course, I'm (barely) under 30, so maybe it's about perspective. I love mid-century modern style and modern architecture, but he's a double world champion. He can dress however he wants. It's not how I would dress, but he's done a hell of a lot more than I have.

I thought Seb did fantastic. Providing jabs back at Letterman (who is a moron IMO), didn't dress poorly (again, IMO), and conducted himself extreamly well. I think he's a fantastic embassador for F1 as are all the drivers I've seen interviewed. The same can't be said for the NBA, MLB, or NFL.

I agree with someone above that Vettel didn't want to talk F1 and looked at Dave funny everytime Dave asked him something technical about F1. Vettel knew that most of the American fans watching don't have a clue about the technical side of F1 and knew it would bore them. Good for Vettel. He did well. His interview could be only as good as the interviewer...not that great.

True that... Dave always wants to be the main attraction and doesn't even let his guests finish sentences often.

I have no problem with what he was wearing. He's a 24-year old athlete, not a CEO of some large company.

Vettel carries himself incredibly well...............even after all of his success, he still comes across as humble and as someone who is having fun with what he is doing. There are many other athletes out there who could learn a thing or two from Vettel...... I would have no problem if my kid looked up to him as a role model.

I must admit I was alittle surprised (not disappointed because I am not his mother) by his attire but then again I do not conform with self-imposed opinions of what the general public thinks is appropriate ie "I am NOT a ROBOT!"

Does ones attire mean they are not suitable or qualified for a position, NO!!!

The proper forum imho for this topic/rant would be in the http://ferrarichat.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=134. Complain about suitable clothing here as it is more appropriate imho.

The U.S. customs officer's "Did you have a good seat?" question is priceless but sad.
I wish Seb would have dressed nicer too, perhaps he wished to play down the uppity Euro snob image F1 struggles with here, or at least torn his own jeans.
Seb seems a nice kid, D.L. is still a jerk.
