Guys, for whatever it is worth, the 2 numbers I had heard were between US $1 to $1.3 million for the US Model.
Modest. First Overall. Before you laugh read the 2014 rules VERY carefully... Especially the fuel limits for Factory Teams and Privateers. Here's why a Race Car has to be tough to Run Race The Ring. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=25408845&l=e142c1afc6&id=375033295253
While I aploud your gall, and would love to see you take fist over all, hell come 2014 I'll be on the stands at Le Mans rooting for you. But taking on Porsche, Audi, Toyota etc. I assume they read the same rules, and would not allow a private entry to embarrass them. I mean realistically it comes down to money, and simply put, they have much, much more of it... this is not even including their greater experience, much larger R/D departments, and the fact that they are probably already testing their cars...
You have to find a main partner or a manufacturer, exactly as Don Panoz has done for the Deltawing. But IMHO an LMP2 project would be much more realistic than a LMP1.
While money is money rules are rules and the law of physics are the laws of physics if the ACO gives privateers more energy/fuel than the factory teams even the factory teams can't contraveine the laws of physics. Your comment that they are probably already testing their 2014 LMP 1 cars which will have to be TOTALLY different than their 2013 LMP1 cars is silly. If we get enough sponsorship we will see if we can do better than the Delta Wing. Once again the odds of us getting enough sponsorship money in these interesting times remain long.
I don't like this kind of very subjective rules. As an example I didn't like the fact that the Porsches Gt3 R's refuelling system has been restricted during the last Nurburgring 24h because of their low consumption. Talking about Porsches...P-Motorsport started testing their LMP1 with Dumas behind the wheel in january 2012...
If you look in the past few years the gap between manufacturer and privateer was always way bigger then a few extra horses could solve..The Aero, and chassis has been, and will be vastly superior for the simple fact that you cant break the laws of economics. In other words if you are competing against the might of audi/porsche/toyota that have limitless Wind Tunel use at their fingertips, coupled with super computers crunching CFG data, and humungous human resaurces...there just is no comparison... And if you really think about it there is no way the ACO would allow privateers to have a chance at winning overall, if for nothing else, because the manuf bring the big bucks to the game, as well as the fans...It has been obvius for quite some time that the ACO will always favor manufacturers... I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, like i mentioned I'd love to see you there, and I'm sure you'd have a great time with it. I'm just saying you shouldn't have that high expectations, as it might limit your fun, when the politics start playing a role. I'm preaty sure even if you build the fastest car out there, ACO would find a way to bring you down, behind the manufs.... For an example on how the ACO does buisnees the GTE is the best example...when spyker ran it's cars (being a small manufacturer) they recived little or no help from the ACO, and their cars had to be fully ACO homologation complient...While when the BMW came along, they just built a prototype (the m3 gtr) totaly outside the rules, and they were alowed to race. And when it became apperent that the cars was still a piece of crap, they were given unheardof performance addvantiges to make it not only competitive, but dominent.
Bench racing bores me. We beat several factory entries at The Ring and if we come back next year we'll be as fast as any car in the race. If we build an LMP1 and the ACO rules stay as they are we'd have a reasonable chance. If we're not given a reasonable chance we won't go. No problem either way.
Jim is spot on here. Until you have thrown down the gauntlet yourself and gone pro racing you will never know what is involved
That's true...But that pretty much means none except Napolis can argue a point with Napolis. I am only a fan of the sport, maybe IMO above average informed about the sport. I am, however, free to state my opinion... I was not talking about bench racing, but simply looked at the current state of affairs in ACO, the politics involved, and the achievement of Audi, Porsche, Toyota, and their assets and made an assessment. Races are raced to be won, and the only winner is the first one to catch the checker... everything else are just consolation prizes.. One one cares who came in 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,etc....
More silly posting. You may not care about who comes in 2,3,4, etc. but MANY do and stating that No One cares about who came in 2,3,4, etc. is laughable. There are many professional racers on FCHAT including ones who have won Le Mans more than once and others who are F1 Champions. We get that you're an AF Corsa Fan Boy and Love Bench racing. We only finished 12 OA at The 24 of Nurburgring but as we did it in an FIA Class 7 Hybrid we are in the running for an FIA World Champinoship. May not mean much to you but I think it's pretty cool and if we do well in our next race we'll win that. Could be worse.
Just FINISHING a 24 hour race is a MAJOR achievement in itself... Anyway back to thread topic...I hope the F70 is as nice as I think its going to be...lotsa competition out there now for the Hypercar buyer
