That is pretty amazing. And the owner lived to 98! It looks in terrific condition for just sitting around all those years.

It's a museum piece but for sure, it's going to make a great museum piece.

How interesting. I was thinking the same thing this morning … if this is a true original as pictured, this could be the first $400K to $500K Dino! Too bad I wasn’t playing “The Price Is Right”.

As I was reading this thread several other thoughts came to mind:

    1. Assuming everything is original, did the 74 Dinos come with Goodyear tires?
    2. I sure would like to see some pictures under the hoods.
    3. Did the Dino ever come with red carpets? I don’t think I have ever seen Dino carpets that color.

Don't think so, but who would keep the original tires on a car?
    ditto
yes, my car left the factory with red carpets, bright red, sort of American flag red. Not burgundy.

the current owner (who posts here regularly) might be able to find a remnant under or behind the glove box and get us a picture.

I'm always a bit skeptical of these kinds of claims.

3400 miles could easily be 103,400. Not saying that's the case here, but it's more likely in most instances that a car has100K+ miles than less than 4000.

Car looks too good to be true.

interesting to see where it ends up.

    Thanks for the answers.*
What *I wanted to know (and you answered) about the tires was did the Dino ever come with Goodyears? If I was keeping the car original I would then replace them with Goodyears, like I have done with my XWXs, replaced with XWXs. I didn't expect the *actual tires on the *car to be 38 years old.*

As far as I know they did not leave the factory with anything but Michelin tires. [edit] R&T 1972 review doesn't indicate XWX it says WVR [edit]

And what I meant was, if the car is "all original" good luck with those 40 year old tires.

And $450K? Really? Almost half a million dollars? What did that Texas car eventually sell for? You know the one with the Daytona and the Maserati they found last year?

Today I saw the spare tire from a very original US Spec 1972 GT and it was this exact model of Goodyear. Perhaps some US delivery cars did indeed get the Goodyears.

As for the selling price it appears as though Canepa is fishing for the money no object 'collector' who is looking to buy an odometer over anything else. Maybe someone will buy it for $350K and rave that they talked down the seller a full $100K :D

It would be interesting to see the car in more detail. If it is original it would be good to see an original spec car, it certainly would answer a few questions on how it left the factory

Dino prices in the UK are rising sharply, especially for good cars. Nerodino sold his car within a few days and got over $300K for it. Amittedly it was a good restored car.

As far as i am aware Dinos only came with michelins, as for 40 year old tyres..... forget it

The milage is correct on the car. Aside from the oil filter and a few other minor things the car is completely original. We inspected it after it came out of storage.

    Brian,

No offense, really. It's more of a curiosity issue for me as you guys have a terrific reputation in the car world.

How can you conclusively ascertain that the mileage is correct?

Is there a paper trail of inspections that indicate mileage? Or a stream of repair slips? Or does it just LOOK like a low mileage car?

I've always wondered how anyone can prove mileage on an old car with an odometer that flips over at 100K miles. I had the same concern when I bought my Dino. At least it had a five year old inspection sticker in the glove box with mileage written on it matching the odometer.

If you're talking about Bruce Trenery, his son was kind enough to show me both their Dinos when I was up there a while back and they are both just gorgeous. If I remember correctly, one was a dark metallic green C&F with very low miles, in immaculate condition, one of the very last produced.

Yes, some Dinos DID originally come with Goodyear G800 Grand Prix tires instead of Michelins- not that you'd want 40 year old tires in any case, and I can't imagine that anyone makes vintage Goodyears of this type since everyone wants XWXs.

Wow, that is truly amazing! At the same time it makes me sad to see that such a car would just sit there and not be driven and enjoyed. Enzo built his cars to be driven hard and enjoyed. Hopefully the new owner will share this belief and put some miles on her!

The extreme valuation of this car is due to its ridiculously low mileage and its originality. Putting a bunch of miles on it would only have a derogatory effect on its valuation and would also likely require serious investment as all that 40 yr old mechanical bits start to fail...which then chips away at its originality.

Where is the Car Fox??? LOL.. yea I know there is no carfax but I am also skeptical. I restore old Cars from the 70s and when I do I put new odometers in them because when I am done the car is new. How do we know the car wasnt just completely restored and they didnt reset the ODO? I would rather buy that blue one in Socal that was restored than this one.

And I agree if it is all about originality and low miles then the car has no value other than someones show piece that cant be driven.

I for one would drive the crap out of it...
