I just received my new stunning 458 Spider. I did ask for Pirelli P Zeros but instead they came with Bridgestone S001. I was a bit disappointed as I read that the Pirellis are better, especially in wet conditions. I also noticed that the other car which arrived same time as mine at the dealership had Michelin Pilots and the demo car has Pirellis...

Has anyone ever requested specific tires and got them? Maybe the factory just doesn't care about this request??

Also, any thoughts about the Bridgestones vs Pirellis vs Michelins??? (and yes, tires make a lotta difference in performance..)

From experience I always found the Michelin's to be my favorite followed by Pirelli tires. Bridgestone to me seem to have less grip.

Ordered Michelin pilot supersports and got them. If it bothers you enough then ask the dealer to make it right. You're paying for what you ordered, expect nothing less.

Best for what ? Dry grip or wet grip or wear or road noise or braking distance or ride comfort etc etc

Since most of these cars never are driven more than 2/10 in the dry for a few hundred miles a year does it actually make a difference ?

Having said that if the OP was given a choice and chose a specific tire then much like the car color that should be respected

I have had Pirelli's on my 360 and I didn't care for the way they wore but I did like the grip and handling. I have always been a Michelin guy for alley other cars and I have ordered Michelin formy new 458 which is due to be delivered in August. I think Michelin is superior in both grip and wear.

I orderd and received the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 and am very pleased. Little noise and soft enough for fun daily drives in dry conditions (California and Nevada). I am not sure what people expect, i.e. all weather, track, wear, etc., but for me, no conmplaints. I guess the bottom line (regardless of tire "ratings") is who has had a problem with their tires and under what conditions? Best

These are the best tires for the least run out, Rngineers car it TIR. The tires are perfectly round. They also grip and handle top class.

On all my cars I put on Michelins when they need new tires. You can feel the difference when you change on most cars. The one exception is cars made in the 50's. But even a car in the 60's will be better.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports were in fact developed specifically for the 458. I did a ton a research and even got to ask some of the professional race car drivers that had tested various tires for the 458. All my research was confirmed by the test drivers, the SuperSports are clearly superior in every major test category. I switched from the Bridgestones that came on my car to the Michelins and it was very noticeable in how the car handled. The Michelin Super Sports also wear better. I did 4 track days on the Bridgestones and they were about done, so with 2000 miles on the car I switched to Super Sports. The car is now approaching 6000 miles and the Michelins still look new and that is after 5 more track days, including over 100 laps on the Daytona road course at speeds that exceeded 190 MPH. Michelin Super Sports are the best tire I have had on any of my Ferraris, but for the 458......well they were made for them:)

i certainly would not generalize by brand. There are Bridgestones that stick like glue btw. There are Michelin's that suck for Ferrari's (at least if you want to drive it like it was designed and built to be driven) and same with Pirelli too (and bridgestones and every other brand for that matter).

From Michelin, the MPSS is a great choice.

From Bridgestone the RE-11 is a great choice.

From Pirelli...err...well, Michelin and Bridgestone make good tires :)

    from my personal experience :

Pirelli P-zero : superior dry grip and not so good in wet , road noise is terrible
Bridgestone S001: good dry and wet grip, road noise is better than p zero but still noisy.
Michelin Pilot super sport : the latest and the best out of the 3: superior dry and wet grip plus it is most comfortable tire out of the 3!

This agrees with my experience. I would add only that the Bridgestone RE-11s give great stick but not so desirable if you intend to run in the wet.

I have been very happy with Pirelli. However, I read the results of "Monsters of Grip" tire test in August "Car & Driver". The best rated tire was Michelin Pilot Super Sport and surpisingly the Pirelli P Zero came in 9th and last place. additional brands in the test were Dunlop (8), Toyo (7), Goodyear (6), Continental (5), Hankook(4), Yokoham(3) and Bridgestone(2).

I got the Michelins on my Spider and I am very pleased with these. They wear less than the Pirelli tyres and they have better comfort than previous Michelin tyres I have used. The Pirellis are outstanding on wet surface but I guess that is not a deal breaker for a Ferrari (I have Pirellis on my Quattroporte though which makes more sense).

Then you have the "emotional" part which is Italian vs. French tyres....

I have read a ton of reviews now from the main motor magazines on the Bridgestones vs Pirellis vs Michelin SS.. and they ALL give conflicting reports.. some say the Pirellis are the best (though old) and others say they give bad fuel economy and are noisy.. some reports say the Bridgestones disappoint and another report votes it as the second best summer tire in the dry... as for the Michelin SSs.. most reports do give this a big thumbs up.. but also one report said it's "so so" in the wet.....

    So, who to believe???

I am happy to hear that most of you got the tires you requested.. sadly I didn't and am now asking Ferrari Customer Support in Italy why?? Surely it's not a big deal to fit the tires that a customer (of a quarter of a million Euros car) has asked for? Changing and balancing tires takes at most half an hour... what do you all think??

I was told by one of the instructorsat Fiorano that they used Pirelli on the courses because they were effectively free, however he did say order the Michelins. As result of the confirmation from this post I have, we will see if I get them. If not, the dealer will have to change them.

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the Ferrari Chat room.

On my 458 I had two racks of Pirelli P Zero, one of Michelins PS2 (very briefly because they offer even less grip than the P Zero) and a couple of months ago I had installed Michelin Super Sport.
As far as street use the new Michelin are a magnitude superior to the Pirelli and older PS2. The grip that the Super Sport offers is staggering, even when the tires break loose with an intentional drifting, the tires retain a lot of grip ( with the other tires you go from grip to almost no grip in a snap ) i also noticed a substantial improvement in steering precision.
Michelin Super Sport shoulders are harder than Pirelli thus a certain comfort is lost over Pirelli.

While I extensively drove the 458 on track with Pirelli P Zero and in this circumstance I have been happy with their performance , I have not drove yet my 458 with the Michelin Super sport so I can't comment .
