Took out the jetway and terminal, ended up in parking lot. I wonder if he was really trying to get off the ground and go somewhere? Death by F16/SuiSixteen when they shot him down somewhere?
"out sight, out of mind" ... did anyone notice the efforts to obscure the identity of the plane asap.... all markings had an attemp to be obscured by "white washing" the hull even before they finished lifting it on to a trailer... it seems to be normal procedure when ever a plane packs it in
You have to wonder what he was planning on doing with the plane. Flee to a different country? Crash it into the mountains or a building?
It's not normal procedure. It's their excuse for their insecurity. Incredible how such unbelievably stupid and insecure people make it to executive decision-making ranks. Do they really think people will blame the airline for this and not fly on it? Do they really think people will stop associating it with their airline because they paint it over? Do they really think this will not reflect poorly on them? Sooooo stupid.
I don't know about SkyWest's procedures, but I'd have to think it wouldn't have much fuel in it. Airlines tend to operate with pretty minimal fuel anyway, and it seems unlikely to me that they would fuel the night before. Maybe he specifically picked the one with the most fuel in it?
Yes, they will blame the airline. It's the General Public after all. ..and yes it is general procedure to hide the identity. Common.
+1 It's not a bad idea given how a lot of people base their decisions about what products and services to use. I don't think I would have thought of doing that, though... I thought there is no locking mechanism to the doors when it's empty and anyone can technically open it up from the outside. Is that right?
No coverups here...and these show far more damage: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/19/nyregion/19plane.html?_r=1 http://www.cheniere.org/misc/tw800.htm http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/7194201.stm You can google "crashed airliner" to get a thousand more matches. None are covered up, even many months after the accident. It is not common. It is stupid. Those who choose to fly or not fly a specific airline for any reason will not have their decision changed by covering up the livery on a plane that was involved in a mishap that occurred due to a random criminal act. This is the only logic that would justify this. It simply does not compute. If anything, I would choose NOT to fly this airline because they chose to cover up this aircraft. It shows a very misplaced set of priorities a cover your ass attitude, as well as a propensity to waste funds on superfluous gestures and a blinkered mentality. If they had issued a statement saying they were going to put in measures to better secure their aircraft to prevent such acts in the future, I would respect them a lot more.
