Too easy.... Lettuce sur la plage returned, Ian has me on the Lotus bet, hopefully Nico can hold off Shoe....
Great race and it is nice to see CW and the FIA enforcing the rules ie SV's penalty. I like JB so I was pleased with his results.
He should have just let button regain the spot. Pretty sure he knew what he did was wrong. Would have given him 5 more points....
Not so sure it's a POS anymore. Leader in the WDC (admittedly, his consistent finishing and bullying the car where it should go in the beginning of the season has a lot to do with this), 2 wins and a 2nd place and a pole position in the last 3 races in all sorts of conditions. Surely Ferrari understands the car now. When button was hunting him I was sure it wouldn't last.
It was Vettel's and RB's own fault. I was shouting at the TV for seb to pull over, he could have easily done it in T8 in the low speed and come back the next lap at a few locations...JB was struggling a lot. And that comes from a RB and SB fan.
There is no doubt in my mind that Seb did NOT know he should have given the spot back. I loved it when JB personaly called him out after weigh-in and SV just made excuses, via his facial expressions. Also the RB team has just as many monitors as all the other teams so...why did the team not tell Seb to give back the spot? If Seb, having clearly violated the track rules, was allowed to retain his finishing position and points, there would be hell to pay and RedBull knew they had no chance at winning, that is if the race stewards are honestly unbiased. I personaly do not trust anyone in the RB team as far as I can toss them. They seem to be grasping at straws and unable to accept the reality of not being on pole and winning virtually every race.
Anyone thought a drive-thru penalty for Seb was a bit excessive? A swapping of places would've been a good enough slap on the hand no? But very happy with Alonso yet again...his masterful pole in the wet was equally as brilliant as his control of today's race, doing a final lap 1s faster ontop of his already fastest lap of q3. And as usual, Massa still sucks, when I saw his entire front wing fly into the air before turn 1, I knew it was over. Remember to enjoy the 15% off victory sale at Ferrari.com fellas!
The 30+ point spread is not enough IMHO, and the spread to webber does not concern me, the spread to Vettel does. Vettel in a Red Bull is a scary combo. Let's see what the FIA says about the engine mapping this week. I have a feeling that the Schumi comments are a foreshadowing of what may come for all Renault powered cars?
Disagree, I still think Red Bull, Lotus (and possibly McLaren now with their upgrades) might be quicker. EDIT: I base that on my opinion that had it been Hamilton in Button's position today, LH would have won the race. Lotus has been fast at every track (could have won here today had it been dry in qualifying), and Red Bull is very very quick, (won last race, car broke with a massive lead at Valencia), and then KERS problems/a Vettel mistake in qualifying cost them a win today. What we are witnessing at Ferrari is a top car (probably not THE best, but close) being driven by the best, which puts it over the top. It's just too close to call to say Ferrari is the out and out best car right now. Just look at Massa's performances...granted it's Massa but still. On another note, all those haters that were saying how Alonso couldn't develop a car and should be sacked (RP) sure have been awful quiet... Love it.
The stewards have only got limited type of penalties to hand out, this was the only option, swapping places is not one of them.
You didn't miss it, but Vettel's post race penalty was classified as a "drive through" "Drive-through penalty, imposed after the race in accordance with article 16.3 (20 seconds added to the elapsed race time."
I thought they had a 5s penalty at their disposal too? That would've been in essence a swap in places since kimi was a good ways behind (6.9ish I believe). Anyways, the F2012 is still not the fastest car on the grid (in the dry), and according to Alonso & Domenicali Red Bull is the car to beat. I personally also think Lotus has a quick car, still don't understand why the strategists put kimi on softs on two stints...that cost him big time.
We will have to see where Red Bull stands after the changes to their engine mapping. At least the FIA finally put a stop to that blatant violation of the rules.
Well there you go, I missed nothing but can blame FOX for crappy "after the thought coverage (why the He!! do they even want to cover F1 when they SUCK at it!) and why was SB's penalty classified as a "drive-through" when that is non-factual??
The amount of commercials today was unbelievable. From the midway point of the race we had a commercial about every 5 laps. Un-****ing-real. And I thought Speed was bad. And once again, ZERO post race coverage.
No idea what he's referring to there, wish I did though. I have to say I very much agree with your post. MB started strong out of the gate aerodynamically with their only real issue (albeit a big one) was understanding tires, but everyone has gone through this a couple times so far this year. MB have Stated they are concentrating on understanding the tires when what they should be doing is upgrading the aero on this car. With better aero comes better tire management and heat. I'm befuddled with their lack of understanding of this simple concept
It's evidently not that simple then.....it is quite a lottery this year; Button has had a horrible stretch; 'lost' where his words....to a podium today....very hard to figure out this year
Right. If a car has good aero doesn't it lessen the load the tires have to bear?? Hoping for better results (possibly some significant upgrades?) in Hungary because right now they are slower than Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren, Lotus, Sauber and even Williams/Force India on occasion. The second half of the year looks bleak unless they can step it up.
