Put that entertaining publication from a source renowned for its lack of complete & accurate information on the shelf & forget about it.

By the way, I agree with all your valid points.

3 GTOs are in the Auto Motor und Sport.

I thought I knew it all but...stupid question, what is the second gas cap cover on the right (passenger) side? Is it for gas or something else?

Issue Heft 16 the current issue of AMuS mentions 'GTO' under cars featured.

Very neat to see the red cloth for the seats and dash in that 1985 story about the 288 GTO!

OK, I thought that was what that was, based on the cutaway drawings. Interesting, very interesting.

A bit of trivia about the GTO, and only owners will know this: don't use the open cubby to the left of the steering wheel for loose change, cellphone. Under hard acceleration it all shoots out and on to the floor!

You'll only find something like that out on this thread, of course :)

It is a 1984 build car.

54247 has also found a new home in Florida (we had to purchase through an agent :)), and yet another may be following in the footsteps of 58137 to the UK.

FWIW a quick census tells me that there might now be more 288 GTOs resident in the UK than anywhere else in the world! That ought to keep Bob busy.

Joe, what's your estimation on the quantity of 288 GTO's now present in the USA?

    Not many!

Less than 30 is my calculation as I mentioned in issue # 119 of FORZA magazine (August 2012)

David Gooding will auction off a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO (Chassis 52469) at Pebble Beach next month.

This GTO was delivered to Ronald Stern of London just before Sherman Wolf acquired it the same year (1984). 6,000 miles from new, this car is part of Sherman Wolf’s Ferrari collection as seen below, that will also be auctioned off.

I have said it before, 288 GTOs exist in some pretty impressive collections and often keep great company.

FWIW I would be happy to inspect this car for anyone who cares as I will be there.
