Drove by the other day and the place was empty. Understand that they may have left
a good bit of unsettled business behind also. So what's the deal?

Not surprised with the stories I've heard. Only the strong survives in this business.

The first thought that comes to my mind is how amazed I am at the people that still went there after they were warned, only to be bamboozalled and taken advantage of....some have to find out the hard way. Sad....we need a referral source for our friends that you can depend on so this will not happen in the future.

JJ, it's a recurring story (nightmare?) when Johnny-come-latelies (often whose personnel come with incredibly bad baggage) hang out a shingle in the small community we share and, almost immediately, become known more for their pitfalls and screwups than for any positive contribution to the business, their customers, their vendors or the legacy of the marque.

After having been in the independent Ferrari repair business for a quarter decade (and starting when you could buy a Dino for a tenth of the average asking price now, a 250 GTO for a fiftieth of what the last one went for), I have seen several instances that parallel this one, and it always ends the same.

Fortunately, people like Bill Pollard, Tim Stanford, Terry Meeler, Karl Troy, Andy Funk and others make the commitment to do business properly, know the cars and their customers and have the integrity to bring to the table to make the Ferrari ownership experience worthwhile. So there is hope... But not for those who patronized EMI in Goose Creek.

As I recall, they started out by badmouthing (i.e. telling lies about) European Road and Racing. What goes around, comes around.

Weren't they the guys that tried to use Karl's name to fool people into thinking he endorsed them or something like that? Maybe I'm thinking of some other outfit?

Yes they were and no, your memory is fine.

They tried and took advantage of the confusion they were sewing...

Hopefully, the door to the shop won't be the last one closed on them, and they throw away the key to the next door.

I didn't know either, so I searched EMI on the main page and found more than I cared to read.

Seemingly the Bernie Madoff 'light' of car repair.

Thanks of the link. The symbolism is ironic as it looks like they are either in that third world squat or getting ready to take a ****...perhaps on their customers. I have had reliable reports of them charging for work not done, as well as just doing terrible work. Leaving major bolts out, hose clamps loose, etc. I cannot figure how you do that without trying. I just don't get it at all. I know, maybe I don't have any real friends and they are lying to me....that must be it.

You have no real friends and they are lying to you. That's it. ;)

I agree David. Since I started the post I have heard from several sources the same things
that you have mentioned. Jiffy Lube and Precision Tune would have been better choices.

    It's like a mathematical proof.

    1) When you do a repair there are those bolts that are left behind that you can't remember where they go (X+Y always = Z)
    2) The car always runs when you have an "extra" bolt or nut behind from the repair (X + Z always equals B)
    3) If the car always runs when you have extra bolts or parts left behind, then you don't need to use all those things for a proper repair (X+Y = X+Z)
    4) Therefore, it's OK to not use all the bolts and/or parts when doing car repairs.
    (Z=B)

See. it's simple really and mathematically sound. :)

    Dammit!!!

I've had work done there before on my F355. Never heard any horror stories, never had a problem with the service (except once). But NOW I try calling them because they were supposed to be restoring my Porsche 356B for me; no answer. I called Chris Felber's cell numbers; no answer. I looked up his number in the white pages; no answer. I've noticed he's deactivated his facebook account as well.

Does ANYONE have a lead on this guy??? Daniel, I noticed you chimed in here. Have you been swindled as well?? We need to get together and find this sucker. 2 months ago I was there, saw my car with the engine removed because they were supposed to be doing a rebuild. Chris wasn't there, but the lady there gave me his **new** cell number. He answered and said the parts were at "the machine shop" and that the build would be done 3 weeks from that point. Now.... well you know the deal.

I've found some legal documents against his father from 2010. I'm going to call the law office on these documents in hopes of learning something.
