You should try being a Phil fan then! ;)

Seriously, even I have to say I think you did over react a little on this one though - I certainly read it as tongue in cheek.

    Cheers,
    Ian

No doubt, or MS fan, I have just about had enough, a new thread and within a couple of posts, we are off again, that's my point, joking or not, makes no odds.

Anyway best to leave em to it, sorry for spoiling the party.

Depends who else is on the list and where.

Hamilton below Mansell? That's a joke. Rindt on the list? That's pure nostalgia - which is why Senna will be 1 or 2 (with Fangio) and Schumi will be #3, I bet.

Certainly debatable, but far from a joke. Mansell is too high on this list, though.

Especially reading what Ian has to say about him. I doubt he has a personal vendetta against him so I take it by heart!

I think the top 3 will (should) be between Jimmy, Senna, Michael and Fangio. It's like getting into Q3. Which big name won't make it through

Dunno if there's a lot of room for debate that Mansell is above Hamilton on a best drivers ever list :)

    We're talking Nige here...

But at the end of the day, it's just one observer's view... people who like the list will champion it as fact, those who don't will say it's bunk.

The only thing we do know is that in equal cars, Hamilton beat Alonso :D :D :D

I think these list should only be for those who have retired, it just makes more sense

These lists are far too subjective to be taken seriously. That said, my top six would be clark fangio lauda prost schumacher senna. I have them in alphabetical order-some may raise an eyebrow at Niki but he missed a 4th championship by a point after almost being killed and missing races in '76. He also didn't have to make any shady moves like MS and AS did.

These 'top 10/20 of all time' lists are ridiculously easy to compile. Take some statistics, mix in a few memorable races, add a touch of personal preference and voila, list made.

Not very complex and a far cry from the countless hours of tedious research to complete my own definitive and far more interesting work; 'Top 10 drivers who never scored a point'.

Almost impervious to criticism, I'm sure many of you already know the top 3.....;)

+1 Seems this particular one is made up from many "votes" by the BBC team, so the inevitable "Brit bias" is evident...... ;)

:) Dayum Is, I'm struggling to *name* 10 pointless (!) drivers...... Over the years, even in the days of only the top 6 scoring, most (?) of 'em managed to eek out a point or two. Please share the "Definitive Isobel most pointless driver list!"

    Cheers,
    Ian

    That is a joke, right?

In the words of John Mcenroe, "you can't be serious!"

I reckon Bas nailed it; Perm any 3 from 4 of Jimmy, Ayrton, Michael & Fangio. Wouldn't be surprised to see JYS round out the top 5.

Silly list, but keeps us off the streets. ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - Bas, no personal vendetta whatsoever - just my opinion and nice to know *someone* reads (some of ;)) my nausea!

In no particular order, the top ten MUST BE (!):
Fangio, Moss, Clark, Stewart, Prost, Senna, Schumacher, Lauda, and 2 current chaps ... my guess being Fernando and Seb.
This top ten is absoultely above dispute!!!!!!!!!!!!
    (OK; everyone laugh now!)

Well, that might be partially because it doesn't really convince: Both ended up with equal amount of points and victories that season.

So by "beat" you mean Hamilton scored on 2nd place more than Alonso. If that floats your boat, well then go ahead make it a tag line.

    Number 11 - Alberto Ascari
    Number 12 - Gilles Villeneuve
    Number 13 - Nigel Mansell
    Number 14 - Mika Hakkinen
    Number 15 - Lewis Hamilton
    Number 16 - Nelson Piquet
    Number 17 - Emerson Fittipaldi
    Number 18 - Jack Brabham
    Number 19 – Graham Hill
    Number 20 – Jochen Rindt

I'd put Fittipaldi over Piquet and Hak.
    Thats just me.

Speed seems to be everyones favorite whipping boy.
He was as good as any at Toro Rosso except for that Vettel chap. Which means he deserved to be in F1 and IMO did well all things considered.
