yes, the shims are underneath the valve buckets. Much better system than Ferrari/Fiat/Alfa, because the shims don't have to be hardened. Cams lift straight up after undoing the cam caps, it's all remarkably simple to work on.
Thanks. Nice to see no chains but gear driven cams, this would make pulling the cams pretty easy. How often does one need to check the clearances ? After every race, or after a certain number of operating hours ? M
I've done 4 meetings since last checking and the exhaust clearances had closed by 2 thou. From here, I'll check every 2nd meeting. Remember, this engine is from Indy in 1983, it did a month of testing and qualifying, then 40 odd laps at 200mph. Has only had the bottom end rebuild I did at the end of 2010. Remarkable that it's lasted so long, still has even compression across all cylinders, starts instantly and makes twice the power of an F40, without all the head gasket dramas.
Michelotto did something with the blocks on the race versions if I recall correctly. Can't be stuffed digging around to refresh my memory.
When we moved from Canberra to Narooma I packed ALL my old 308 QV stuff into a carton. Now the time has come to have a huge garage sale and get rid of some of the junk we have accumulated over 30 years. The Narooma locals are more into Utes than 308s so what I have is available FREE to a good home. A set of 4 springs that were developed for the 308. I have forgotten what the poundage was but it converted the 308 into a very stiff car .. in fact too stiff to drive on our ridiculous 'highways'. A set of red hard rubber bushes for a 19mm roll bar and 1 metal clamp. Plus 3 x original rubbers 1 drop link for roll bar (F or R ?) plus an icecream box of drop link inserts various IDs. 3 x Spacers between the exhaust and the exhaust pipes If I remember correctly without going to the Ricambi cattle dog a warm up regulator for an AUS specified QV. When I upgraded to the UK spec. cars in 1988 the black boxes and the warm up regulator were replaced. Also I have somewhere an AUS spec black box and several anti roll bars of varying OD's .. can't put my hands on them at the moment. I will be going to the Wangaratta session of the Rally so can bring along then ... otherwise postage/freight and packing at your expense.
