    It can't do squat courtesy of being 7th quickest car (sometimes 8th, FI is a little quicker sometimes) at the moment. Lucky to salvage a point when their lap times were being smoked by Force Indias and on par with Toro Rossos...

    Dude, this wasn't an anomaly. Their car is a hot turd. Enough with tires this, tires that, every team has the same tires. If you can't read into this weekend I suggest that you look at the many others. Mercedes has been dreadfully slow since Monaco. The team isn't learning anything, the car eats tires like it has all year and the year prior.

    I guess it's time to focus on next year since they're not bothering to bolt any new upgrades on the current car.

    If the engine was already overheating on the formation lap to the point that he was willing to shut it down, he should have just come into the pits at the end of the formation lap. Turning it off on the grid is pretty dangerous and doesn't help the engine one bit.

    Are you saying that MB restarted the engine through telemetry? Hello, you need a starter (pressurized air) and mechanics for that.

    None of this makes any sense.

    Indeed.

    1st aborted start when MSC stopped wrong grid slot. Then switched off engine by mistake. Collected puncture on drain when pushed in pitlane

    Martin Brundle ‏@MBrundleF1
    Then MSC gets pitlane speed penalty which apparently he shouldn't have received as before race (should have been a fine).Then car broke down

    Agreed.

    No, of course not. We saw he mechanics starting the car. What I'm saying is that maybe their telemetry came back and saw everything was fine, or they took a gamble anyway and hoped for a SC or something to pick up some positions.

    It didn't matter because of shoes position, but that's a terrible mistake on the FIA's side. Can you imagine it was one of the leaders? ''Yeah, sorry 'bout that...''

    Man, Lotus now ahead of Ferrari; that's got to hurt. And a point off MB. Masa needs to start pitching in for Ferrari to finish 2nd. Fred increased his lead, which was an excellent result IMO.

    They always say/put (on fine print) some BS to make it true. You can always make ANY car the first ever in anything with enough BS :D.

    And he's stupid enough to keep doing it even with a camera recording everything he does. He wouldn't be there if it wasn't for the quote below IMO.

    This was the second most boring race next to Monaco but still fun with the few moments of excitement.

    I was looking forward to hearing from Lewis and Kimi after the race but SPEED decided that a bunch of idiots standing around talking about a race happening five hours later was more important. Thank you Nascrap!

    Dude!...... :)

    You're getting your Loti mixed up a little ;)

    - The team that is now Lotus ("Fauxtus", as they're *nothing* to do with the turnip farmers ;)) was Renault last year, & finished 5th in the WCC.
    - The team that was Lotus last year (and you're correct, 2010 also) is now Caterham. They've yet to trouble the scorers.

    Got it? :D

    Cheers,
    Ian

    +1 WTF?...... Kimi would have been breathalyzed for sure! [©, The Viz ;)]

    However;

    Not what the FIA said later;

    Not clear from that if he went walkabout into someone else's spot, or just got "lazy" and missed his own.......

    Hard to argue he got that wrong - Given 20/20 hindsight of course. ;)

    Seems he may know the rules here better than the stewards...... As Bas (?) noted, shouldn't have mattered......

    Cheers,
    Ian

    :)

    I'm reading the FIA release again, and this time;

    Originally!?...... ;)

    I guess he's not used to starting that far back - Stopped short, Charlie freaked, he moves on, but by then it's too late maybe? Just a WAG.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Precisely. I'm certain McLaren was aware of that and Hamilton was preserving tires from the get go.

    Thank goodness for DirecTv on Jet Blue. Was able to see the whole race en route from DC back to Nor Cal. I like the strides Lotus is making and thought Fernando once again got the most out of the car on a track that doesn't suit the Ferrari. Lewis drove an excellent race to keep the surging Lotus behind him (regardless of the difficulties passing on the track...had he killed his tires, Kimi would be sitting on the top step of the podium without a doubt).

    Agree with those who suggest that the McLaren is improved, but not to the point of being a dominant car. Lotus looked VERY good today at a track that suits it well.

    Talk about a blast from the past. Schuey is rocking the moullet (nee "mullet") pretty well in that photo. Clearly, he's a child of the 80's...

    :) We all make mistakes.....

    They've certainly improved - After this W/E they're up to 3rd. Their jockeys look good too.

    However, they finished 5th in both '10 & '11 remember - They should be "close" IMO.

    Cheers,
    Ian
