After going on a parade of youtube videos show casing some of best Ferrari's built, I started to ponder.

I would truly enjoy seeing the progression of technology and engineering in the form of a few laps around a track starring the 288Evo, F40LM, F50GT, and the FXX. It would be a great promotional item for Ferrari to setup.

    Ciao,

Possible, but not likely as a factory effort.

As an aside, there is an old but cool video featuring cars with varying degrees of performance (from street car to F1) being released at different time intervals on a given track to showcase the dramatic difference in performance each one delivers when compared to the others. After being released about thirty seconds late, the F1 car passes all of them in the last ten seconds or so to cross the finish line first.

It's pretty cool, and is in a similar vein as your idea.

I have seen many versions of what you have described. I'll keep dreaming of the day when all 4 (soon to be 5 and so on) are on one track, racing against each other.

This would be a very poor PR move by Ferrari, the F50GT1 is much faster than the FXX. There is no point in upstaging a current cash cow with an abandoned racing program.

The F50GT1 may be faster but you would have to be the reincarnation of Tazio Nuvolari to keep it out of the weeds for very long.

not necessarily disagreeing, but how can you tell the F50GT1 is faster (much faster even) then the FXX? Seems not very plausible, since the FXX is designed, without any restrictions (technical or financial).

S/N 001 (F50GT1) was recently dynoed at over 975hp, it is also lighter than the FXX with better areo. 001 was/is quicker around Fiorano than the 333sp.

but is it (much) quicker than a FXX? What exactly do you mean by better aero? Does it create more downforce than a FXX?

Yes it does. It is quicker than the FXX as I said, it has more power, its lighter, and it creates more down force. I don't if you know this but, a 458 Challenge car is only one second slower than the FXX around Fiorano. Don't get my wrong I love the FXX, I have ridden around in both a FXX and a 599XX they're both phenomenal cars, but they are no where near as quick as an all out race car like the the F50GT1. By the way on a shorter course the 599xxevo is quicker than a 'standard' FXX.

Conjecture really. One thing's for sure. The FXX has more development potential with its bigger engine and more advanced chassis.

How is it conjecture? The FXX has a done 1:16.00 lap around Fiorano, the 333sp has done a 1:11.90 lap and the F50GT1 has done an even quicker lap around Fiorano. I would really like to see what S/N 001 could do around Fiorano now after its rebuild, because its even faster now. The FXX was never designed to do the fastest laps possible, it was designed as a rolling laboratory and cash cow for Ferrari, both of which it has been very successful at.

ok, that seems all pretty valid, but HP output doesn't tell the whole storie. Turbocharged F1 cars from the late 80's had a lot more BHP than the current cars, yet the current cars are much, much faster around any given track. The F50GT1 came to life in 1996. The FXX about ten years later. The EVO is about 100 BHP down on 001.

I know the FXX is a rolling laboratory but it still contains pretty much all of Ferrari's know-how of building competitioncars and as you know better than me, in the hands of a capable racingdriver (at least at the level of Nicola Larini) the FXX is insanely quick.

In theory you are probably right, but I suppose (pure speculation here) that under equal circumstances, the difference between the FXX and the F50 turns out to be a lot smaller. How knows, perhaps some day we'll know for sure. Is 001 fixed again?

Yes and actually running stronger than ever, that is not just an expression in this case. It is quiet a bit quicker than it once was, and lighter too. I don't know if you have every ridden in an FXX but it is actually rather softly sprung for a track car. It is a very compliant stable car. The F50GT is not, 001 just touches the ground at race speed on track.

I don't understand the debate between the F50GT1 and the FXX Evo. As been said, the F50GT1 has set a quicker lap round fiorano than a 333SP, which is much quicker than a FXX. It has more power, less weight, and more downforce. Of course it'll quicker.

Isn't the GT1 some 150 horses down on the Evo?

Power isn't the end all be all in performance. A standard F50 GT has ~750hp and weighs only 900kg.

The FXX EVO has 860hp but weighs in at a portly 1150kg. That's 250kg heavier than a GT1, which is a crap load.

Chasis 001 F50 GT has been dynoed at 975 hp as mentioned earlier .

Has a 288 evo or F40LM ever recorded a time at fiorano?

A 288 Evoluzione recorded a time on the old version of Fiorano, but that isn't relevant.

My ears are still ringing from the recent Dyno session. By the the Youtube video of 001 on the Dyno is a little misleading as the '750 hp' figure was reached at 10,500rpm, well below the red line.
