Now the question becomes what to do with their reputation since there are 200 pages of discussion about their dishonesty.

They should have thought about that, BEFORE they shipped the car without addressing HIS expectations and the promises they shook on.

Yes because HIS expecations must be what we all base this story on right? After all we dont have anything else to base it on.

No disrespect to the writer - they are entitled to their opinion and person account, but trigger was pulled and the bullet left the gun in terms of words being thrown out around dishonest conduct. Some of the members jumped all over boycotts and other forms of protest on the single perspective - quite amazing and concerning to me actually. The dealer still came through - these things take time - we should all know that. In the rawest sense, ones "expectations" must align with the contract - this takes due dilligence and someone to decifer; especially, if the matter isnt black and white.

As I mention, whenever there are two perspectives, it takes time to work through the details to get resolution - the writer acknowledged this and his *intent* of waiting...but waiting wasnt really what happened was it? This was a full on complete description of one side of the story (arent there always two?). No matter how objective one is, you CAN'T provide an objective account of a situation that you are a part of - its not possible.

Im disappointed to see the mob mentality being displayed in this thread. We have all been caught in misunderstandings - this can be anything from simple mistakes to planned deception. Most people are honest and want to do the right thing...I can guarantee that without a complete and accurate account of a situation, any interpretation of the circumstances has a high probability of being wrong. Regardless of the motivation behind it.

^^ You think maybe they finally figured out the guy wasn't going away? To drag things out for over a month including the title is bogus. My opinion is the OP was too nice with these guys but his style is to be pleasantly persistent and it finally worked. This just confirms all the skepticism about FLA dealers and the only reason they performed is because of the heat. This dealer blew it as they ran into a guy who wasn't going to just go away. Glad you're finally getting what they promised you from the start at the start.

    YES!

I'm guessing he spent north of 100,000.00 for this car. I think he has an absolute right to expect exactly what he paid for and a bit more.

I choose to believe HIM. If he can afford to spend 100K on a car, i also believe he didn't get there by screwing around with picayune BS. I'm sure he has better things to do than conjure up a story to falsely accuse a dealership, just for the hell of it.

This is a public forum, if FOPB wants to tell their side of the story, they certainly can, but by the mere fact that they paid him today, they just did.

    no disrespect Matt.

Has it occured to you that they know about this ongoing thread and that, perhaps, the reason they finally relented was because of the bad publicity that it engendered?

The final resolution took far too long. Skepticism was justified.

Everybody is entitled to draw their own conclusions.

Oh yeah thats probably it they were secretly monitoring this thread for the 180 posts and then cut the check for $500.00 (or whatever it was) because they felt they had no other recourse, including mentioning their knowledge of it, or providing input - how silly I was to not think of that.

Just like you said, everyone is entitled to their own conclusions.

No disrespect received :) - I welcome any decent thoughts to the story. In fact, I don’t really dispute your initial thoughts about expectations.

Although it seems bizarre to me that trust might be borne from an ability to purchase. Money doesn’t make anyone honest or a better person than another - in many situations, money will compel people to do the wrong thing. Although, I suppose that’s the kind of logic that Bernie Maddoff and Kenneth Lay depended on….before anyone jumps on that one, I’m not drawing parallels to those crooks and the writer here - and I never have said he was doing anything other than sharing his perspective. What I am saying is we are drawing conclusions on a single perspective which is never the entire story. Apparently the court of public opinion is swift and doesn't care that its partially blind!

Finally, implying that cutting a check means they are guilty as charged - deceptive and dishonest is incorrect. Without them admitting some sort of wrong doing, it just means that they drew a conclusion that a payment needed to be made and it was done.

Everyone knows that it is only a single perspective. It is not so much a matter of convicting FoPB based on incomplete information as it is that it would be foolish to ignore the information that is available because it is incomplete. I would rather hear one side of the story than neither side.

I found Chris to be credible.

Thanks!, I've been enjoying her all along. I already put about 700 miles on her! Definitely a fun car.

    LOL, thanks!

    Coincidence?

Their reputation is up to them. My posts were factual data surrounding my purchase. After speaking with the manager I told him that if he points out any false statement on my part, I would have it immediately removed. Everything is still there, draw your own conclusion. Remember, none of this would have been an issue if they held up their end of the agreement during the purchase.

Exactly my point all along. Thank you!

    1. This is true. My expectations/promises made to me WERE exactly what this was all based on. Just to eliminate the possibility of multiple sides to a story, I did offer to have a 3 way conversation with the manager just to prove that they will agree with everything I said. Everything I said was agreed to be completed by the dealer, and none of it was. I shouldn't have to say any more. It wasn't one thing that was forgotten about, not even 2 or 3. NONE of the stuff was done when it arrived even though I repeatedly reminded them. I got an e-mail response at one point when I asked if the gas cap was replaced stating, "of course it was". I'm still waiting for that to arrive. They said they were sending it (in an e-mail today). I still tried to write the facts as much as possible. It was left for the interpretation of the reader. Again, not my fault. This should have never happened in the first place.

    2. It is black and white. I have e-mails from before I even took the trip down describing EXACTLY what my expectations with the car were. And who was responsible if things were wrong with the car. No grey area here.

    3. I kind of agree with you on this. I did my best though. If I wanted to just bash them, and try to sway it and make myself look good, and them really bad, I could have handled it very differently.

    4. Don't be disappointed. The mob is what helped me get a resolution to my issue. If you don't believe me PM me and I'll explain further. I don't want to expand here.

You are exactly correct that I wasn't going to go away. Not my personality...not when I felt like I was slapped in the face.

As I was saying all along, the dealer never said that I was wrong, or disputed anything I asked for, or that I asked for too much. They pretty much had no option but to do the right thing, I had all my ducks in order on this purchase. I was not asking for anything unreasonable. I just asked for what I paid for, and they agreed to deliver. There is nothing made up, like I said previously, I offered anyone a 3 way conversation with the dealer if they felt the need to verify my end of the story. Thanks for believing in me. I do appreciate it. Again, my intent wasn't to get everyone against the dealer (If they didn't follow through, then maybe it would have been a different story). It was to let people who are planning to purchase a car know what happened, so they can make informed decisions. It doesn't matter who they buy from.

They did find out about the thread, then I got my first call back....hmmmm. Like you said, I was starting to become skeptical, but I still wanted to believe that they were going to do the right thing, and they did!
    Thanks for your support.

It isn't a secret, they ARE monitoring it. The check is for $1,635.42 if you must know. I can now take care of the stuff on the car that should have been done.
It's an open forum, anybody who feels that it is necessary can comment. If you notice the trend, all of my posts are very neutral, actually supporting the dealer some of the time, until someone like you backs me into a corner, starts to attack my integrity etc., leaving me with no option but to defend myself. Then it unfortunately ends in people badmouthing the dealer or one another. if you haven't figured it out yet, I don't back down when I'm wronged, or attacked.
As you said, everyone is free to draw their own conclusions.

Thanks again. As you said, it is only my side. I actually would have preferred if the other side posted on here as well. I think it would have kept a few of the posters here much more calm.

All that said, part of my agreement with the dealer was that when I got what I was entitled to, I would ask the moderator to remove this thread from the forum. They still owe me a gas cap, so as soon as I get it I'm going to ask the moderator to remove this thread if possible. If it is not possible, I want to make it clear to everyone that THE DEALER FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH THEIR PROMISE TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR. The outcome is fair given the circumstances. I do, however want to remind anyone purchasing a car. No matter where or who you buy it from, make sure it is what you want/expect BEFORE handing the check over. It will not only be easier for you, but it will be easier for the dealer as well. I guarantee that if the car came to me in the condition that I "expected", I would have been raving about what a great purchasing experience it was. They are nice people to talk to, I don't want to take that from them.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
    Thanks again everyone.

Congrats on getting the compensation to resolve the issues that should have been resolved before the car was delivered.
This makes it look like this thread was designed as leverage rather than to help and educate the community. If everything is factual and there are no inaccuracies in the thread why should it be removed?

    Thanks,
I agree that it can appear that way, but it wasn't intended to be used as leverage because I never told them about it, and hung it over their heads. I wanted them to do the right thing without the leverage. If they corrected it without leverage, it would mean so much more to me (and I'm sure others). However an Fchatter advised them of the post (just trying to help). Once the dealer called me about it, during the conversation, they agreed to pay for everything, but then asked if I can do something about the post. I agreed to have it taken off once I got what I was entitled to. I agreed because, even though every bit of it was factual and just an education for any potential buyers, I was still able to see their side. I was able to see that it may be misconstrued by people only reading partial posts and not getting the full story. I guess it did eventually turn into some leverage for me, but it was unintentional, albeit beneficial at the end.

Congratulations on the purchase and on the resolution.

I don't think it's appropriate to remove the thread as that just lets FOPB off the hook.

The car should be been delivered right in the first place. They are still at fault. If they offered compensation for your time, that might go towards mitigation of your damages. But I gather you have yet to even see the tee shirt and cap either. That's just cheap!

If FOPB thinks that they can get away with it with someone who has lesser persistence skills than you, then they may well try if the record of this transgression is wiped.

I dont think that the moderator will remove the thread. Besides, erasing the thread means nothing in terms of the availability of the information to show up in search engines like Google.

Its here in all its glory for people to see for quite some time...

You are correct...no T-shirt yet or cap. In all fairness about that. It wasn't part of the "agreement" like the other stuff that I previously complained about. The salesman told me that he was going to ship those with the car because I complained about the $899 "dealer fee" that shouldn't have been charged. He was trying to say that he will make it up in different ways. It was more of an unsolicited offer from him. Unfortunately for me, they didn't make it up in any way yet, but since it wasn't in my agreement, I didn't really make too big of a deal. But yes you are correct, they should have sent it if they said that they would.....who knows maybe they will pull through and send them with the gas cap?
I understand exactly what you are saying about leaving it, I have to agree with you. What happened, happened. However, I did agree to ask to have it removed for exchange to make sure that my situation was corrected. Of course the important part here, is that I did get a resolution, and I hopefully also helped others in the position to buy one of these cars (or any car). Since I did make that promise to them, I do intend to keep it. That's the type of person I am, I ALWAYS keep my promises. Whether or not that was a bad choice for me to agree that, that's a whole different situation/topic. At the end of the day, I think we will all be satisfied. I will be satisfied that I got what I paid for, the dealer will be satisfied that I am happy, and there is no further negative press, and the prospective buyer will be satisfied that they actually learned a little. I think it turned into a win/win situation instead of the lose/lose that it potentially could have have been. Even if the record of my situation is wiped and lost, the learning experience, and the ability to guide a newcomer on the purchase of their car, is not lost.
    Thanks again for the congrats!

True about Google, but while they may have recorded it, the link to page would be gone.

On a rather geeky note however, there is a website called the wayback machine:
    web.archive.org/

Like Google, it spiders out and takes periodic captures of pages for later playback.

One of our lawyers told us about it when we were chasing down a company which had violated our copy-write in a webpage. The defendants denied it, but the wayback machine proved them wrong, even though they had removed the content.

As they say, if it's on the internet, - it's never gone.

Sorry missed that there was a quid pro quo.

Besides the fact that there will always be a record of this because of how the internet works, I fail to see how you would have the authority to even make a claim to have it removed. Sure, you have the right to ask, but it isnt a personal journal. The forum and its rules for posts, and their interpretation by the administrators that would dictate any removal or otherwise.

As part of my agreement, I told him that as soon as we hung up the phone, the post would be updated with the result that he agreed to take care of the costs. I also told him that I would "ask" the moderator to have it removed after I received what I was entitled to. I didn't make any promises of any outcome, or how people would feel about my incident. I also don't have any authority over the forum, as you said. I can ask for it to be removed, but I can't make anyone do anything. I've seen posts pulled in the past, so I didn't think it would be a problem to ask. If forum rules prohibit this, oh well. Not my problem. This should have never been an issue in the first place. Wow look at that, there's one more thing to learn from this thread. Do the right thing on your own BEFORE it turns into a more serious issue!! You are not scoring any ethics point in my book. I know you are trying, but it's not working because it SHOULD HAVE BEEN a non-issue. I wasn't the one that started the mess.

Is this directed to me? lol...if so, you have expressed and are entitled to your opinion, like me. I dont really care if you hear me or not - I wouldnt ever assume that you would.

This is a public forum and my expressions are specific to the issue and the general approach - I would never assume that you would hear me...its not the style that you have demonstrated at all. I may agree with you on the issue, but the approach that you took was personal choice - in the end, you are the only one that has to be alright with the result...but I most certainly dont have to agree with it and since you put it out there in the public domain, I would expect that you should expect all sorts of perspectives not just those that align with your own.

And, for the record, you havent scored any ethics points in my book either.
