    Hi Daniel (and Anja)

Thanks for the amazing vid and the great pics of your 456M!

We really enjoyed our tour past Sunday!! What a beautiful 456M and an even more impressive Scud!

I thought I could share one of our pics of our tour from past Sunday here too.

    See you soon

    Looks like a fun day,

I wish they would close a road for us here in Los Angeles.... But that will never happen.

Here is a shot on Mulholland Highway.

    Thanks for sharing.

    cheers,

    Markus,

How did the 575 do up against the Scuderia on real roads?

Keith – The Scuderia was ways slower than the 575… :)

No, seriously: It was a really great day and we nearly had every combination. First Daniel drove his Scud with me on the passenger’s seat. The wives drove the 575. Then Daniel let me drive his Scud (thanks again Daniel, what a great experience). Then my wife was on the passenger’s seat of the Scud with Daniel driving. We changed again so the wives were driving the Scud and Daniel the 575 and at the end Daniel drove his Scud with his wife and I had my 575 with my wife on the passenger’s seat. Hope you could follow… ;)

As you may know I had a 575M that my mechanic wrecked (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=353855). So I had the opportunity to “upgrade” to a HGTC (faster gearbox, different exhaust with better sound, CCM brakes, stronger anti roll bar, stiffer springs, better steering). The difference from my 575M to the 575M HGTC is huge! It feels a bit more like a 430 (it still has a 12 cylinder engine :) and after driving more than 5 000 km I could not go back to a standard 575M. It’s a bit a "575 Scuderia" ;)

Well, now to the comparison of the 575M HGTC and the Scud.

Feeling: The Scud is light and nimble. Very precise, very stiff (you feel every pebble on the road). The 575 is heavier and tries to hide his weight with a light steering and an engine with lots of torque.

Gearbox: The 575 HGTC is significantly faster than the standard 575M but really slow compared to the Scud. Wow, what a drama when you change gears in the Scud a higher revs. It is really fast and there is a big “bang” when you shift into the next higher gear. I prefer the gearbox of the Scud over all double clutch gearboxes (which are fast but some kind of boring).

Sound: In my impression the HGTC exhaust is louder at idle than the Scud! Maybe you would not expect that. When driving the Scud a lower revs through the village it was not too loud and probably not (much) louder than my 575. At full throttle, well the Scud is really screaming. We did some tunnels and Daniel reved his Sucud. Wow, the whole tunnel was filled with the sound of the Scud!

Acceleration: We entered the high way (autobahn) and accelerated up to 120 km/h (well, maybe 150). I was behind Daniel’s Scud and was surprised that I could follow him. We did not do a straight line next to next comparison but the 575 was faster than I thought. It has a lot of torque that helped to follow the Scud. The Scud and the 575 have about the same power (510 versus 515 HP) but the Scud is more than 300 kg lighter than a 575.

Steering: I think Daniel was first irritated how light the steering of the 575 is. It is a much heavier car that compensates the weight by a light steering. I really like the steering feel of the 575 but the Scuderia is stiffer and more precise.

Now guess what I am thinking would be nice to add to my 575? My 575 is my daily driver and could never be replaced by a Scud (I don’t think that a Scud could be my DD). But a Scud is a really nice contrast to a 12 cylinder Ferrari and I hope to be able to have both cars some day.

I hope I could give a comparison about the two cars. Maybe Daniel can comment from his experience.

    Markus

PS: When at home again I did not think that my 575 HGTC is slow or a inferior car (I was afraid that I will think this after driving Daniel’s Scud). I love my car as I did before. Maybe even more.

Very beautiful and aptly described, as I have not much to add.

IMO both vehicles perform very well its purpose, they are not directly comparable. I guess Markus has described it very well: the Maranello as a high performance GT is more designed for a very fast but also comfortable ride on the road - the scud is primarily developed for the racetrack, on the road, the scud is bored.

At the end: both Ferraris are preparing a lot of fun!

    Cheers, Daniel

    Markus,

Great write up comparison, Its rare you get both cars together to see how they compare in the real world. Magazine numbers don't show the real truth. On my event, the Kulinary Mille two weeks ago, we got to really let the cars out on some serious back roads. I was in a 2013 Bentley GT and was dicing it out with two of my 458's. In the turns obviously it was no contest, but on several straights where we started our acceleration runs from about 70mph to 150mph the Bentely held its own very well keeping up. Off the line would have been a different story as well, but once it shed its weight penalty and was at speed, the torque really worked well. Total apples and oranges but it is always interesting to see the differences in real world applications.

Keith – Wow, that must have been fun: A Bentley GT and two 458!

I totally agree: The numbers in the magazines are quite worthless (though still interesting to read…). I want to know, how a car feels. It’s also not the measured shifting speed of the gearbox but the feeling it gives you when shifting up or down. I think this is the world of Ferrari to give you an exceptional experience. Other cars may be faster but usually less involving you in the driving experience.

When somebody tries to compare cars by 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) figures I usually ask him if he is able to “rate” his wife by a single number (never ask your wife to rate you by a single number; maybe she would ;)). Then they realize that you cannot compare real important things with numbers.

Here is my Pozzi Blu 2004 575 (gated!) (cuoio interior) sitting outside of Bradan's shop. This picture was taken to emphasize the Big Brembo brake kit with painted calipers in the 19" modular wheels. The white background washed out the hood.

Thank you. It's a great color in person.

Dan at Bradan would be happy to tell you what we did brake-wise 631 585 8600 (Long Island, NY).

    Cool.

I'll call my rep at Brembo to find out.

Glad you want to promo your guy, but I just wanted a quick answer. Not looking for salesmanship.

    Enjoy the car.

Approximately $4,000 per axle for the parts. 6 pistons up front, 4 in back. Shop around.

If you want to go really big, opt for 8 pistons in front. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=344007 But then you have to buy the bigger wheels adding another $10K to the project.

They look great and stop even better. Figure you are hauling two tons of car, gas and passengers around. More braking capacity is not a bad upgrade to the Maranello. Fade? What's that?
