I own one of the 1980 Repco Round Aussie trial entered one's. Volvo sanctioned about 4 or 5 separate mechanical workshops to build up 3 GT's and 1 244 sedan for the event. The GT's had 2x45 Weber's instead of the FI,they also had the power steer taken off. A 100lt fuel tank was fitted in the boot, against the back seat and the car was re-configured as a 3 seater(in the centre rear). All the usual rally stuff was there,Halda, inside fuebox, rollcage ect. Mine was rolled by the then head of Volvo Aussie,Harry Jensen,in FNQ. The car then stayed up north.
I bought it with a slight roll after the previous owner tipped it over on a motorkana. It came with a spare complete car. The roof was put on and some panel repair done, now it's been sitting for a couple of years. It needs paint and putting back together. I've lost interest in it,unfortunately.I had a new fuel tank made as the long range one had disappeared. It's a complete car and was a driver when I bought it,apparently it's great to drive according to a mate who had a go in it before the roll.
It was actually the '79 Repco. I've just found an over hour long utube on it,about 12 mins in is some Volvo stuff. It's great quality video, old skool reporting though, going back to check the rest out now.
great news, hopefully they can fix the dip on the main straight and the mismatched surface around the back. In truth, they should tear the whole surface up and redo, probably $2-3million. Would need some courage from the council... With the right promotion, they could get lots of drivers down from NSW. Wakefield is a joke circuit and Eastern Creek expensive and over-booked.
are you going this year? I don't think you'll win this time...too many scuds and challenge cars. I think our winning days are over but our whining days aren't.
A bit of positive news for Winton at least and then they need to look at some of the facilities as well!!! On the flip-side and talking of re-surfacing, I am really looking forward to the resurfacing of the Island being done over the Christmas break
The Ferrari Club should see if they can borrow or rent the Dorian Lap Timers from the Maserati Club for the Rally track day. They work really well.
I wonder if the V8 Supercars team that has Jaques driving has to pay him a lot of money, or does he pay them?
It looks like he should pay them. He'd have enough money from his BAT days though, rumor was he was on 25m for 4 years.
The team is trying to hang onto Pepsi sponsorship, which runs out at season's end. With the regular pilot in Mr Murphy still recovering from back surgery, the team seems to believe that having a high profile pilot in the car would either increase its coverage on the #7 teev coverage as well as in the news outlets around the world. Not sure any championship success was factored in here. Of note, the blokes in the Kelly Racing development series team are running as quickly as Mr Villeneuve, in similar, yet older equipment on the same day... they would have been much cheaper.. but maybe not of the right profile...
But crashing into the other cars, poor passing choices, and some off track excursions were not the mark of a former F1 WDC.. Meantime, Pepsi has apparently signed with FPR for 2013...
Ohhhhh Kayyyyyy, I wonder how half of you lot would go if you were dropped in the deep end? Not defending Jacques...but give the guy a break???!!!!
