Has anyone mounted a successful defense against these C. S. fund raisers?
The bustling metropolis of Deer Park, Il. if it makes any difference.

    It's the new tax.
I wouldn't bother fighting it,the fee is not worth the time and effort and the ticket is not on your driving record.

But... No offense Ross, but if you ran a red light, shame on you. That's my biggest pet peeves, red light runners

    Or was yours something different?

I didn't "run" a red light. It was a right turn on red where the stop was made across the line so as to be able to see approaching traffic. Nobody was impeded. There is two second time lapse between the photos on the notice.
No harm, no foul. I doubt a cop would have given me a second glance.
There is an option for an in person hearing, I expect to lose but I'm going just so someone has to look me in the eye.
When I'm aware of these cameras I typically won't even make a right on red as I don't trust them and it also insures the vultures will not collect a cent on that particular cycle of the light. Never been honked at for standing there either.

Of course it's all about safety.

My dad got one a few months back and the judge said as long as he made a complete stop he would let him off, and he did and it got pardoned or whatever the term is, that was in Lake Zurich

I agree. If you've run the light and you receive a ticket, how can there be a complaint? Essentially, you broke a law and you have to pay the piper. How can there be an outcry?

Read the fine print, you may be able to see video online. on the tickets my wife has gotten in Chicago, north brook and wheeling you can see video online. She tried to tell me she stopped and we were going to fight, until I looked at video, after seeing it I was glad it was just via mail and not a moving violation.

You never got into this situation where you have already passed the light but haven't crossed the intersection completely because of traffic or some other reason (A slow pedestrian)..and by the time you cross it, it turns red and you get flashed..

Man, f*ck these meter maids. I got a ticket which admittedly was fair since I misread the parking signs. But they f*cking stuck it to my drivers window with a sticker that is not peeling off. The other cars all have the ticket on their windshield why the f*ck wasn't mine put in the windshield? I have wipers. Now I have sticky sh*t on my window. They did that on purpose

    I don't copy and paste.
I see it was written that the stop was made across the line to see approaching traffic.
Most limit lines at intersections are set up one of two ways.
When there is one limit line and a vehicle in transit comes to a stop past this line then that vehicle is inside the intersection.
When there are two limit lines, this area is generally a pedestrian right of way.
In either case a complete stop is required before the first limit line.
Then at the vehicle operators discretion and when it is safe to proceed, the operator may turn right on a red light.
There are several different exceptions, pedestrians in the crosswalk, posted-no turn on red, construction zone, etc.
Here is an example: I had stopped at a red light on an east, west highway, the front of my truck was up to the single limit line, in effect a 62ft long visual barrier, a minivan rolled to a stop on my right just past the limit line, the north, south traffic was using the far right lane as a right of way, a sedan passed in front of my truck and tore the front bumper off of the minivan.

I don't know about a defense against a ticket, but the Bolingbrook Promenade went to the Bolingbrook city council and made the case that significant loss in sales would result from the cameras around the mall because they would drive people away to other malls. Thus, there woiuld be a huge loss in tax revenue and the viability of the stores in the promenade would be in question. End result was the city of Bolingbrook removed the cameras.

No doubt that the "limit line"(never knew it was called that)was crossed. I sometimes do it as a practical matter and suspect most everyone else does too. I understand this violates the letter of the law. Policemen do it, watch others do it and seemingly don't care unless they are looking for a reason to stop a suspicious driver.
I paid the fine and am now aware of this camera, the sign before the intersection should have been a clue so shame on me. I justify it as the penalty for not paying attention.

That Bolingbrook mall's arguement has merit. Got my ticket leaving a mall while shopping for wife's Bday. That and Christmas are the ONLY times you will find me mall shopping. The Village of Deer Park won't be getting any sales tax dollars off my Christmas shopping any more and that exceeds the amount of this fine. I can be as petty as they are, plenty of other places to shop.

The intersection of Green Bay and Buckley by the VA hospital they installed the cameras and changed the right turn onto Green Bay south from a yield (which it had been for years) to a right turn on red allowed but they moved the stop line artificially far back. It was so far back you couldn't see if it was clear. Last year I go a ticket there for right turn on red for failing to stop behind the line. I hadn't realized it had been changed to a photo intersection, I also didn't realize it wasn't a yield anymore, but fortunately it wasn't clear so I did stop almost a car length ahead of the line.

They also had video online and I was able to see I had come to a stop, I went to "court" and they tossed it, but I still had to pay court costs. While I felt vindicated it wasn't really worth taking a day off work for it. :(

From what I understand, this situation should not generate a red light ticket. Only entering the intersection a certain amount of time after the light has gone red, triggers the flash. Sometimes, in that situation, you are getting flashed because someone behind you triggered it, but you still shouldn't get the ticket. It's unnerving though, when someone behind you in traffic sets the thing off.

That's pretty much how I got busted too. I don't know if the line was moved back but that is really low trick if they did. It wouldn't surprise me any.
When I'm aware of them I wil NOT turn on red at all and nobody has yet gotten impatient behind me. It pleases me that at least one cycle of the light won't generate dime one for the greedy SOB's.
I'd love to clone the license plate of any cretin who makes the decision to install these menaces then make right turns all day.
