Thinking of trading my 2010 Cali - value?

I would PM CNC Motors or some of the other dealerships who post here with specifics to see what they would do for you. I wish I coudl help more but I just dont know the Ferrari market.

 

Unfortunately, Ferrari dealers don't take cars in consignment anymore, claiming their insurance doesn't cover them. With such an expensive car, the tax advantage alone (if you have it) makes the trading decision almost a no-brainer IMO. With a $200K car in TX, the tax savings is $12,500, which is pretty close to the hit from trade-in value to net private sale, less the hassle (and risk) associated with that. Good luck.

^^^^ This. You can get internet guesses or you xcan goto the source and get actual bids.

My suggestion is head to some of the indi sellers / wholesale locations and work your way from there.

Consigning is always an option too, if you have the time.

Maybe it was a polite way of saying they didnt want to consign a certain vehicle?

Tax savings are worth the trade in at the Dealership for sure!

Some do, I don't think it is legal in Ohio though.

Not Ferrari of Beverly Hills and Silicon Valley (same owner). At least they told me that with the 430 spider that I ended up trading in. Would be curious to know if those 2 dealers actually take cars on consignment (hope not). But it's pretty obvious to me based on your comments that each dealer deals with consignment differently. I'd definitely go that route if tax advantage wasn't substantial enough.

 

Tax issue depends on where you live. In California, tax is on full price of car, not the delta between new car and trade-in.

 

If you were told that they just did not want to consign your car and could not find a nice way of telling you....

Correct. They only consign a very few. They would rather take cars in trade to sell another car.

Consigns are a PITA. They have to negotiate between 2 people. They don't own the car so everything has to be approved by the owner. If they take the car, they know what they paid, they know what margin they want, and they can do whatever they want with the car without worry.

If you want to consign, go to an independent.

 

Your Ferrari dealer should give you a good idea. I looked at selling my 430 spider on my own but the offer I received from FoA was so great, I took it and traded up to a 2012 California

 

It's confirmed that was the case now . I guess it's part of the Ferrari 'tax' new customers have to pay for the privilege of becoming a customer . Dealers obviously make a lot more money that way, and with less hassle, as mentioned. Oh well.

 

At least here in Texas, you can get your dealer to do a in and out for you. You sell your car and the dealer will do the paperwork as though you traded. You then get both a Retail price and the tax savings too. I have done it several times and have averaged about 15k over the dealer trade-in price. I paid a $750 fee to the dealer for the paperwork.

 

I'm pretty sure my F430 was being sold by Ferrari of SV on consignment.

 

I've done this with other cars, with a couple friends at dealerships. My Local Ferrari dealer won't do this though.
