Driver is a pompous entitled a$$ and needs to be taken down a notch and serve jail time so he can think about his issue with authority.

After reading up on this a parking ticket isn't final until the cop has put it on the windshield. There is no law stating you have to sit there waiting for it or that you can't move your vehicle from being illegally parked. So this cop tried to obstruct his right to move the vehicle until he was conveniently finished and then faked that he ran over his foot.(clear in video) If the driver has a sharpy lawyer I think he'll be able to get off and can also sue the cop for excessive force and damage to the vehicle. We shall see.

    its wasnt a "parking ticket"

the vehicle had no proof of a registration sticker affixed to front windshield

maybe the cop saw an "unregistered" ferrari on the street

driver was told to stay on sidewalk after tearing up first ticket before the filming began

    do some research first

You guys are forgetting many simple items here and making too much of it.

It's a freaking car...who cares if even the window got smashed out. If it bothers one too much about their car getting bruised, then don't park it in downtown clutter zone USA/NYC where almost no one drives unless in a cab for obvious reasons.

The LEO, regardless, is just that. Driver should not have done anything but waited. We can agree on that. It's in the blasted license manual and I just saw many examples regarding such from the NYC on-line read: http://www.dmv.ny.gov/search.htm?cx=007061114450675468010%3Adhdx9x0tera&q=+law+enforcement+officer+and+obeying&cof=FORID%3A11&siteurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dmv.ny.gov%2Fvehsafe.htm as examples.

The COP/PERSON was on foot, i.e. PEDESTRIAN. Last I heard they have the right of way, and taking chances with your many ton vehicle gives you an instant strike.

Who gives a rats rear end if valet parking or not: there are no special rules to jump and run or break traffic laws, even in bustling NYC.

    so much wrong with this.

    Driver: Jerk
Driver: Started the incident, regarless of what some think of the LEO and ramped it up.

Perhaps NYC is not the greatest example of always showing respect for the law and parking persons are the least respected, but facts are facts. The guy was the idiot, obviously, and the LEO will not need to worry much fake injury or real.

I did and that's hearsay. If it wasn't a parking ticket why wasn't the car towed? Why was the guy's GF allowed to drive it away?

What gave the ferrari driver the idea he could just drive away? His GF wasnt even out yet either so where was he going? Then again if that B**** was my GF (which would never happen because I am not rich and have a GF whos infinatly better in all way) I would leave her behind too.

He was moving the car before the parking ticket was placed on the windshield. Anyone has the right to move their car and it's only once a ticket is on the windshield that it is final.

Sorry Surf, but I call bull but I'll do it with a smile :D.

Perhaps some ancient rule exists for some dusty township, but that is generally not the case. Once identified, you are done. You don't have to sign a ticket. One can even photograph some moving violations, and in our county the meter 'maid' has an electronic terminal that within a few seconds of punching in the license plate, the 'ticket is issued'.

It's now become a grey area as tickets are more a tax then anything else. The quicker the tax is administered the better the revenues. At any rate, why the need to try to block the guy then, damage the car and try to knock the guy's block off if he's got him regardless? Seems like a huge power trip. I still maintain he has the right to drive off, if the system is quick enough to tax him, then so be it. This will go to court and they'll work out a plea deal with the guy.

Don't get me wrong the guy was dumb for deliberately illegally parking. To turn a parking ticket into a beat down though is ridiculous.

Anyone with half respect for a ferrari, or any quality motive object and anyone who actualy DRIVES thier car would not take it into NYC./
This guy is from the pose school of ferrari ownership.

Cops in the USA on the other hand have this higher than thou attitude.
In Australia and NZ where speeding 5 mi over the limit is close to a murder I was stopped going close to 100mph. In each case the cop was freindly and went about their business, why cops in the USA have to behave like authorotarian asses is beyond me. That we excuse the beating of a person and consider a slapdown justified or normal just shows how much we have degenrated as a civilised society.

Whether the F-car owner was right or worng, a ****** or not, there is no reason for the cop top have escaletd things like this, or allowed it to escalte.
One day you will all wake up and realise that 80% of what the state does is use you as a crop to raise revenue. Our founding fathers rebelled against this, you should too.
If the law wants to be respected, it should act repsectfully.

Thank you Boxerman. Easily one of the most eloquent posts on this forum. It is commonplace to do the +1 in making a statement that you concur with; that would simply not do the post justice so I salute you sir.

How true this common species of poser does reveal itself in the urban jungle, wouldn't you say? I have a far different salute for posers that include 2 fingers presented on both hands simultaneously.

From the video, The sequence of events:

    1. Guy sees Cop writing ticket
    2. Guy says something to Cop (presumably asking if he was about to get a ticket)
    3. Cop replies (presumably in the affirmative)
    4. Guy get in car and puts on headlight
    5. Cop moves toward car (presumably to indicate; "don't drive away").
    6. Guy starts engine and inches forward
    7. Cop places his knees on car and mentions "foot" casually
    8. Guy inches forward again
    9. Cop, more aggressively now, says stop and places hand on rearview mirror.
    10. Guy appears to inch forward for a third time
    11. Cop slams windshield and yells "foot".
    12. Cop opens door and tells Guy to get out.
    13. Guy remains in car.
    14. Cap proceeds to extract Guy, slam him on the roof and arrest him.

IMO, 1,2, and 3 indicate that the guy knew he was getting a ticket.

4 begins his attempt to get away, which is presumably illegal.

5, 7, 9, and 11, demonstrate that the Cop gave Guy 4 chances to stop on his own accord.

6, 8, and 10 constitute fleeing the scene and a low-level assault with a deadly weapon.

At 13, Cop gives Guy another opportunity to comply with the law voluntarily.

14 is justified because the guy is repeatedly breaking the law and doing so in a manner that constitutes assault.

Better to pull the guy out forcibly than allow him to flee, especially considering his disregard for those in his way. You don't want anyone doing a high-speed getaway thru crowded soho.
