Well, curiosity more than anything else.

But, with so much pontification of the value of cars that have sold, or cars that are advertised, I suppose I'm not surprised to see that the opinion of the one that almost everyone puts on a high pedestal wafts like maple leaves in an autumn breeze.

I was merely asking for opinions.

I wanted to know opinions as predictions. Est is 650 to 750k. I personally think that top bid won't be more than 550k. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it. It's ok to be wrong. I'm certainly not expecting to hold anyone accountable to their guess.

Why will I not be surprised when half a dozen come out of the woodwork post sale to say, "I knew it", or, "this is why that price is wrong". It's so much easier to be right in hindsight.

It was just a question, sheesh.

    Joe,

The red car has been around for a while. It's probably sold a long time ago and the ad has not been removed for obvious reasons. The white car has it's issues like you said, probably sold too. Do you know for a fact both cars are active listings? Both in Europe, maybe the economy is a factor.

EM's car was a fully restored example. And restored well! The $169K range for a typical S2's is probably the right number as most likely it will be an average car at best. Just like the black S2 Roy bought from an Fchater and than sold it a few months back. I don't think a fully restored high quality S2 can be bought for less than $200K right now and maybe for not less than $250K. Hell, not for less than $285K! The price Jeff was stuck on for his red S2!

We all know the cost of a restoration. A $100-$150K spread for an average car and a perfect car is not out of the question. The previous owner I heard spend in access of the price EM's car traded for on the restoration. Good value for sure!

    Geno

It was a great question, please don't feel badly.

But its going into an auction. Anything can happen at an auction. I happen to know that despite all the money spent on the restoration, the seller is in it a fraction of whatever it is worth or will go for. I don't know his reserve though. I don't know if he will let it go at high bid because, quite frankly, he can afford to and may not want to do this another day. Likely he will not decide this till the last minute. So, we just don't know. So many variables, that's why I responded like I did.

In general, I have stated before that I thought that the best LP400 were worth circa $550k. So I agree with you, and, I also don't mind being wrong - or mind seeing people spend more than they really should have :)

Either way, it will be fun to see it go.

Good thoughts on all the numbers, I cant disagree too much.

Yes, Raymond in Switzerland has confirmed both those cars are actively for sale, and they are cars that have been for a long time, like many Countachs on the market. Raymond was even kind enough to afford a visit of the white car for initial impressions, and in his eyes it did not fare very well, some incorrect details & those side-skirts notwithstanding. Since then they have reduced the price, but it remains unsold.

Since you asked, I will go against the grain, I believe the prediction is in the ballpark. I favor the lower end of the estimate. However that is based on the assumption this is a close to a 100 point car with good history. Personally I have not researched those points.

    Cheers Jim

Still driving the crap out of it! Don't you ever wash it :) That's the same dirt as when I saw it at Pocono 2 or 3yrs ago.

Time for a before and after shot.

I guess it did have a white interior from what I can see.
Shame as I always liked triple white, however I am not a fan of the U.S. side markers. Vic

Yes, better, thanks. The rest was just noise because well, been to enough auctions, and bought plenty of cars at auctions, to know it. ;)

I am very, very excited to see what it'll go for. Such a great catalogue this year, there's at least half a dozen that I'd die to have. That Delage D8S? So, so right it's got to be wrong. The Bug T57 and T55....oh, I've got to stop.

IIRC, I saw that Daimler Double 6 at Pebble in 2000. Astonishing presence.

David Gooding consigns some fine cars! We have interest in his 2,500-mile titanium Enzo, the 6,000-mile 288 GTO and the restored LP400. Despite the car's well-known LP400S history, the restoration looks to be good and most importantly, was faithful to the car's original livery.

I'd love to see that blue interior in person. Wish I could make it out this year.

Hi Ken, Good call. I took that shot two years ago at Celebration. As far as the red QV, I had no clue it was the Atlanta car. Thanks for the info.

Hi Vic, I know of another area Countach. Back in 2009 a buddy of mine who went to college in Athens stumbled upon a local car show there. He mentioned that a gentleman named Tony M. had a white Countach as well as a red 328.

I did speak with the owner of that red Countach and he mentioned that it took him around 5 years to restore his car. PS, Hoping one day to see your car on the road :)

    Excellent car, thanks for sharing.
A good restore needs years, usually at least three.

I am friends with both Athens Georgia owners.
As a matter of fact the owner of the 1986 Red DD car is currently painting the wing for my car and the owner of the white one did the concrete work for my shop late last year. I believe you may have taken some photos of mine a few years back at T Rutlands fall car show. Just in case here are a few from one of my first car shows along with Vail's 1988.5 and his wifes Espada.
