I can give you a recent datapoint on the service and tires... I had a full major done on my CS in March 2012 at a Ferrari dealer with all fluids, filters, belts, tensioner bearings and spark plugs for IIRC $3300 - I'm at work and can't get the exact figure...the major without plugs was just under $3k IIRC the plugs were $300 or so...I know that is lower than most can get - I got 15% off as a repeat customer and because I asked I also got tires installed at the same time by the dealer. I ordered RE-11s on line for $1300 and the dealer charged me less than $150 to install. So, my recent data point was $5k for major and tires - at least with RE-11...the lousy Corsa tires cost $1000 more, but they make up for it not sticking as well or lasting as long ;-) Even if you had to pay the "normal" $4k or so for a major, and another $1500 for tires, you are at $5500. I've gotten several quotes for a 360 Major (belts, bearnings/tensioners, and fluids and filter is standard) and they have ranged from the low of $3k that I paid to $4500. So the highest I've heard/seen firsthand is $6000 for major and tires.
I thought that the service price was high. Might just buy the car and have service performed in Florida. The dealer says he knows the car's history and it is a two owner car with no record of accidents. Are these guys trustworthy? Do I need a PPI and if so does anyone know of a place in SD where I could get one done? I don't want to cloud my judgement anymore than it is already.
I looked up the history and it is a 2 owner car with no record of accidents. Yes, get a PPI done. Use the search function here and search for "PPI San Diego". I'm sure you'll have several choices. Start working the phones.
if you haven't done so already, consult stokpro. you'd be surprised at just how much knowledge he has about these cars.
