In review, we have seen the special "Upside-down S", the limited "Leaning S", and now, could this be the rare "Sleeping S"? Image Unavailable, Please Login
It is a beautiful car though..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lamborghinis-official-fuel-injection-prototype-history-folder-milestone-/280939073393?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4169460f71
wasnt'that "FI Prototype" that was for sale at 340 K? http://bringatrailer.com/2012/03/28/bat-exclusive-1982-lamborghini-countach-factory-fuel-injection-prototype/ yes, same VIN: same car! there is "just" a USD 155 k rebate despite the new front euro bumper... May be if we wait some more time, he will sell it for 30 k USD with the carbs... I sell mine carbed for just USD 500 k: if he asked 340 k for a FI, i think i have to ask not less than half a million for an euro version, carbed and (may be) better than that... ;-) ciao
I truly love the Countach with fender flares and no side-skirts; wingless is a major plus IMO. SuperX, it's great to see a Countach with road grime. Keep up the good work! Nick
Hi Dennis, I remember when you purchased it not too long after mine. Nice to see long time owners. looks mean..
Dear Alberto, You own one of the best-sorted LP500S in the world, so there is no need to compare it to this car, or, in fact, any other That said, I too am laughing about the $155,000 price reduction from another I-know-what-these-cars-are-worth price estimation of $340,000, in the space of a month or two! I almost spilled another cup of coffee! There can only be 2 reasons for this generous change of heart, but I suspect both are at play: 1. - He has been reading our comments about how poorly defined the Countach market is, and how it is proliferated with ridiculous sucker-prices being asked, and how color-changed cars with non-genuine miles all asking top dollar languish on the market forever. 2. - He really needs to sell now. But, today's buying public do not like to be taken for fools, because they are both knowledgeable and prudent. The $155,000 sudden reduction is a red flag for most & signals something was/is amiss, so the question is begged, why was $340,000 being tried for in the first place? Was our collective intelligence being insulted and now that we are no longer seen as fools lets try something more reasonable? Is that what is happening here? Some will find that hard to let go, and this sentiment will now linger at any price, with the car gaining the reputation as "the LP500S that was asking $340,000". Some may say: "If he will come down $155,000 in a month or two, lets wait till he comes down another $50,000". These are all just random thoughts. Personally, I LOVE the Argento/Blue combination. But all the DOT crap plus the fuel injection would have to come off. Its a great car for the color combination, but to me the fuel-injection history is actually just interesting but not a plus IMHO. The car would have to be like the car below, which, in fact, is this very car in the USA before all the DOT stuff was done to it. For $135,000 plus the Polo mallets & helmet, I'm in. i do not know, Joe, i know that a FI 5000S nor in original color does not worth 200 K even it were perfect (and this is not). I should look at the car in person to be sure, but i think that 150 k is the top price you could ask for that car. The "FI prototype" issue is totally worthless, we all know that. If i had to sell mine now i would ask 250 k and i would sell for 220 or even a bit less. 340 k are a nonsense today for a S2-S3-5000-QV and even more for the Anny even in mint condition: who knows, may be one day this will happen, but not now and not tomorrow for sure. Prices are going up, this is not questionable, but not so much and not so quickly too! I'm not a dealer, i just know mine costed 177 k euro up to now (214 k USD at current change) ciao
It's a beautiful car. He tried testing the market, and priced it much better at this time. No harm done. The Rain man car is a much better value imo. What about the X Mershon car? Has anyone found the new asking price?
What can you envision being the list of parts required to change this car back to carbs, and what could that list cost not including labor? Thank you.
I agree with you a lot. I agree its a beautiful car, and that's why I said: "Personally, I LOVE the Argento/Blue combination". I agree he was just "testing" the market at $340k. I agree he has priced it much better this time, that is a good thing, and the price is now within the realms of reality. I don't agree that there is "No harm done". I think that the $340k ask suggests a seller that was out for a sucker, and that seller may be treated differently by the small pool of potential Countach buyers. I have been in sales 28 years, and I humbly suggest that anytime the price is suddenly reduced by 45% eyebrows are going to be raised. You can apply this to anything: cars, real estate, the list goes on. When at first he decided to sell, there were numerous ways the seller could have easily established price reality. Cutting to the chase would have established the car as "seriously for sale". I agree the Rain Man car is better value at the moment.
Its a high ask (assuming the $255k you are stating is factual & correct). It was available at $170,000 two months ago. Now the wheels are silver, the wing is gone and its $255,000. $85,000 more It is possible that a lot has been spent on it, but as with all these cars, in the final analysis you have to subject them to a detailed inspection & decide for yourself.
Good to know, and thanks for sharing. By the way, this is another color that I love. Nero/Rosso was the color combination of my first Countach in the mid-80s.
ok, but is this price for real? or are some trying to drag us towards the 200k. zone? just asking? Chris.
Peter, since most will agree that the color on this car is indeed quite beautiful and likely the main reason for its desirability, note that the description provided for EBay is erroneous in claiming it was the only one in the Argento Luna/Blu livery at the time ("reported only example in this color combination at the time"). At the time, an earlier car, 12478, now resident in Spain, also existed in Argento Luna/Blu. We have featured this car earlier in this thread, Emilio knows the owner quite well, and it is an example of what this EBay car used to look like (& can again). Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cant speak to the motivation of any seller out there at the moment. But, I can say that $170k is the highest I have seen an LP500S go for.
Someone has inquired privately whether Silver/blue for a carbed Countach of any kind was rare. Yes it was. But, there are a number of known cars that had this livery such as the LP400S S3 1121444 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Albert is a great example. A recently purchased 25th Anniv with 2k miles being restored, Topcarbon's black Countach, and also the Andretti Countach.
Thank you. Its great to actually give some examples so the uninitiated (of which there are many reading) can see what your comment is based on. Much more helpful that way.
Thanks to the kind gentleman who sent me this series of Swedish magazine articles from the 80s. A pair of 1988.5 Countachs. The black car is actually metallic (Nero Metallizzato). Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
