I wouldn't say that is a true statement based upon my observations. For example, I was recently at the MTC in Woking for a factory tour with a group. Everyone owned a 12C with the exception of myself. Everyone in the group with the exception of 1 person owned a Ferrari. And in that group who owned Ferraris, only 1 person did not own multiple Ferraris. Where I live, every 12C owner except for one has owned or currently owns multiple Ferraris. Many of them have 458's as part of their Ferrari collection.
You live in a very affluent area where they can afford to do that. I have to say that I go past the Maclaren factory in Woking quite regularly, and being british, i really wanted to love the car...unfortunately I did not and went for the car that my heart and my other halves heart went more towards...the 458, despite the much longer wait. If I could have both, sure I would probably have both, or maybe I would still reject the maclaren and go for the forthcoming gallardo replacement next year. For now the R8 and 458 will do me as my daily drivers. Can not wait for my first ever Ferrari!
Any one thing in particular that tipped the scales towards the MP4? Can't help but think that Senna's involvement with McLaren had something to do with it.
Ps. I love the way the doors open on the Mac. Just not practical for a daily driver though. Also do love the suspension on it. Amazing!
Beautiful car! Black really makes that car. Stunning. May I ask if your car is a 2013 model? I read that the 2013's come with more horsepower (616) via ECU tuning and was curious as to what difference (if any) it made to the way it drove. Thanks in advance.
Always wanted a McLaren F1, but could not afford it. Frankly it is the Acceleration and Stability at high speeds that are incredible. I have never felt a car so planted in my life. It probably hits a hundred in under 7. Ferrari has always been my F1 Team, but with the exception of Gilles and now Fernando, I never really cared for any of the drivers. Now McLaren is a different story, Emerson, Hunt, Lauda, Prost, Senna, Mika, and Lewis are some of my favorites.
For clarity, the upgrade is being performed to all cars, including already delivered 2012 models, free of charge.
Probably not in America? I would hate trying to open those doors in the british car parking spaces. I guess if you cant get out of it, you may as well drive around and enjoy it further
I can't wait until the press tests the Mac spider against the 458. I suspect the Mac may come out ahead. I think with the carbon tub there shouldn't be any chassis issues, and the extra hp should give it the edge. Mac seems to actively be addressing the concerns with the car. They are even trying to make the engine sound louder. Ferrari no longer has the technological edge. I wouldn't be surprised if the 458 replacement has KERS and a carbon tub, that would really put it in a different league.
As good as a car it is, nothing they can do to even get close to the sound a Ferrari makes and without the sound what do you have? Just another car.
So what makes a Ferrari is the "sound" of the engine? Then all those losers with pipes on their civics were on to something? I think Ferrari is definitely more than the sound of their engines. And that if my F-car was more quite, it would still be a great car.
When I see and hear a Ferrari, I feel butterflies in my stomach. To Mac owners (and Mac fans): Does the sight and sound of a Mac evoke a similar response in you?
My buddies always worry when they park that they will knock off someone's side mirrors if someone were to park next to them.
Had a recent group gathering, the doors do it. All the bystanders were drawn to the opening doors of the mclaren.and understandably so. It looks amazing in operation. And I must say e sound is amazing with the optional exhaust.
Quite correct about the doors, my car has the sports exhaust and it is actually louder than my 430. The Sound is amazing.
Hi Tifoso, my car is a 2012, the 2013's are not out yet, in October, my car will be upgraded HP and Gearbox, also SAT/NAV and Bluetooth will be on it as well, as the maker of these systems had huge problems due to the Tsunami in Japan. The systems will be in place in October per McLaren, right now, it is fine without them.
Patrick, with the optional Exhaust it sounds pretty good, louder than my 430 on Track Mode, however, nothing sounds as good as Ferrari.
Was all of that included as part of the price of the car? If so, I think that's pretty decent of them to do that. That way you get the best of both worlds: You can enjoy your car now with no waiting, and then upgrade to 2013 specs once everything is available. Very cool IMHO. Do they provide you with a loaner while the upgrades are being installed? Enjoy it!
