    Dear All,

I have just acquired the 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE in Denmark with a chassis number 4189. Would anybody help, please, with finding the history of the car!

    Best regards.

    Oskar,

Congratulations on your purchase. The $250K realized for the car seems above market. What are some of the car's attributes that made it so attractive to you and other bidders?

Thanks for the referral Ferri, but our email address has changed to [email protected]. I took over the Register and Newsletter from Bill Preston last year. In any case, Oskar found me through our web site and I have sent what I know of 4819GT. As it went into the museum about the time we started collecting information, we do not have much.

WilyB, thanks for the Photo! I wold love to add it and any others you have to the register. What years did she own it?

Geno - Hard to nail down a price on something that is going up in value as fast as the GTE. I can say, however, that it appears to be in better shape than the DeLaurentiis car...

And if in Denmark it probably reflects the very high vehicle taxes in that country.

    Dear all,

Thank you for your kind congratulations and welcomes!! It is very thrilling as I am going to pick it up and do the restoration works!
The reason why I have decided to spend that much money is simple - this particular model was my childhood dream. I know its above the market, since I had been monitoring the market for some time, but this purchase is most about emotions and the least about investment and adequate spending. I think the majority of lucky people will understand me))

The historical part of the car is very interesting..to know what life and where the Ferrari had)) I've trued searching the web and addressed my enquiry to Tom (thank you guys for the link) who was of a good help to start my search with))

And now about the car - I have already left Denmark and did not note the engine number unfortunately. The car looks to be in a good condition but surely needs inspection and a mechanic to have a look at it. As far as I've understood the gearbox is in a bad condition and probably the engine. I plan to take it for restoration to ModenaCars in Geneva or to Autofficina Bonini Carlo s.r.l. which is in Italy. Do you guys know anything about the prices and quality of work they do? Maybe any references to other restoratirs in Europe? I would appreciate any help!!

    Thank you again for support)))

Picture taken around 1979/80 in France.

I'll check the archives for the serial number but that may take a while as we are remodeling our basement due to some serious water damages.

4189 GT. Please excuse my sloppy typing.

How high are they? For instance, what would they be on a $200,000 vehicle?

    Welcome to the club!
Three years ago, at RM auction in Maranello in May, I bought #3227, with Ferrari Classiche certification. This car was already in good order, so my Dutch general mechanic can maintain it. It has proven to be very reliable, including a 4000 km trip vv Amsterdam to Monaco, and quite comfortable to drive.
The Classiche certification certainly adds to the value, but I have no idea how costly it is. If you have a good workshop with contacts in Italy, all parts can be found. It is expensive (but not too bad compared to the value now of the GTE [restoring my Citroen SM is at least as expensive and that car is worth less than a fifth], and it may take some time.

It is refreshing to see somebody going after his dream without the usual whining about value and economical repair. I see that as a result of people wanting to have cars they really can't afford.

GTE is a very solid car with astonishing level of design and build quality. May look heavy in the pictures, but don't let that fool you; it is a very pretty car from the times long gone!

    Best wishes, Kare

Oskar, in case you are not too far, pay a visit to the PRA (Pubblico Registro Automobilistico) at Pisa and enquire on registration PI 109169 which seems to be on the car. It may reveal all the history since the car was registered in Italy.
    Good luck

I have seen that car on the roads around here a few times when they took the AAlholm cars out on tours. They had some special cars, or atleast weird cars.

So I have seen this Ferrari 250 GTE and the Hannibal 8 (Professor Fate car) passing me by on public roads. All back in the 80's or 90's.

Still have some pics somewhere I think, from when they were at the museum.
