Over the years I have had a few different forums. I have had some success with phpbb but two of the forums I have now recently got attacked by malware. Im not the best at coding but I can get around here and there.

This attack was pretty big. Luckly the forums are rather new but still it is a pain. Literally every file is corrupted. I think really the only option is to start fresh.

Should I just move to vbulletin? I like that phpbb is free but I dont want to lose forums in this way anymore, especially since the two I have were growing really well.

Does anyone know of a company who will monitor my sites for things like this and fix em if they get attacked for relatively cheap? Im hoping for around 50 a month? Its just not worth my time to monitor this crap on my own with all the other projects Im working with. At the same time I love the whole concept of forums and writing so I want to have a few around.

    Thanks for any advice/help,
    Ryan

I like Astaro and the like. Not sure how good they are with phpbb though. Never used them for that.

VB was never free. Unless you mean free free ;)

Moving to VB wont make your sites more secure, you don't even know how they got in. I'd suggest filing a report here. They might help you work out what happened. You might of been compromised from the O/S... or another vulnerability.

You really need to understand the basics of server security if you want to protect your sites from future attacks regardless of which forum software you use. Most forum software aren't install and forget, you do need to tinker with php as well as understanding file permissions and htacess and of course /broken record backup regularly  I believe Rob Lay does daily backup's of fchat which puts fchat offline for 10mins~/day.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software_(PHP) Here is a list of all the php boards. VB is probably the most popular but you do have options

There are sites that can do it all for you but I don't have any to recommend
