I don't see this in pictures of other 328 engines. At least not as mounted on mine... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Adding that frequency valve there is a modification used to convert a euro version K-Jet without Lamdba system into a K-Jet with (quasi) Lambda system -- is your 328 a euro version that was imported to the US?
Not as far as I know. I have seen DMV records and service reports since new in D.C., with no indication. It is a very early 86, built in Nov. 85 if that matters... I have been looking for a frequency valve part number. Searches don't mention it thus far.
That is very unusual as, if it is a US chassis, to have a frequency valve mounted there would almost certainly mean that the engine had been swapped for a euro engine. What is the 8th digit of your VIN? "A"= LHD US version, "B"=LHD euro version, anything else is some other odd version... Here is a picture of a US version 328 engine - note the black fuel distributor and the frequency valve and pulsation damper mounted to the left of the fuel distributor: Image Unavailable, Please Login Here is a picture of an unmodified euro version 328 engine -- note the silver fuel distributor and no frequency valve nor pulsation damper: Image Unavailable, Please Login Does either look like yours? PS The frequency valve Ferrari part number is 121513 -- item 26 here: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/parts_catalogs.php?M=FE&P=&V=diag&I=2392
The 8th digit is an "A". Can I check on the engine somewhere to verify its originality or replacement status? I'd like to see the two pictures, but they are boxes with question marks. Grateful for your help...
One other thing: The in line item has the code 0280 150 007 which is a bosch fuel injector, not a frequency valve, unless they are the same thing. Now I'm really confused.
Defiantly looks like a fuel injector to me. Can you see where the feed lines goes to or where the depositing line goes? Exhaust maybe? Would also be interesting to see how they wired in a ninth injector.
Yes, by reading the engine family marked on the engine block valley by cyl #1: euro 328 = F105C or F105C000 US 328 = F105C040 I'd post a picture, but... Send me an email at [email protected], and I'll email the engine pictures to you directly. Don't follow your source here for the 0280150007 number -- are you saying that is shown on that Ferrari SPC figure or is that the number printed on the actual item? In another Bosch reference, I have the frequency valve as 0280150300. Functionally, a frequency valve and an electronic fuel injector have a very similar behavior (i.e., an electrically-controlled on-off fuel valve), but a FV doesn't have features to produce a fine spray -- so don't see why an EFI couldn't be substituted for the FV (but doesn't work the other way around). They show up fine for me so must be something with your Browser/System.
Yes, that's the routing for "quasi-Lambda" system modification -- the added FV (or EFI) acts in together with the valve inside the WUR to alter the control pressure. If you look in the compartments under the rear trunk floor, you might find an aftermarket ECU (DCJohnson, Neutronics, etc) there. PS Your photo shows that you definitely have a euro (silver) fuel distributor and no FV in the stock location nor a pulsation damper.
No, not if it's working well. Most have been disabled/disconnected (even though the injection plumbing changes are still left there). Do you have an O2 sensor mounted in the exhaust stream, and is the O2 sensor connected to an aftermarket ECU? PS Can you see the pictures that you posted, but not the pictures that I posted?
Rob, typically, where is the fuel pressure accumulator? I have a hot start issue and a possibility is that it bleeds off causing a possible vapor lock, so I thought I'd take a look at it.
Fuel accumulator is located low in the engine bay under the left front of the engine next to the fuel pump. It's under the fuel filter.
